We had the good fortune of connecting with Hou Si & Mariela Alvarez – Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hou Si & Mariela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We’ve actually been whipping up some delicious takoyaki for our buddies for a little while now. They were always telling us how it’s just not the same anywhere else. 🐙

So, a lightbulb went off – why not spread the joy of our favorite snack with other awesome folks who are all about Asian cuisine and culture, just like us? And you know what? Another big reason behind kickstarting Weebie Takoyaki was our total anime obsession, especially with One Piece! 🏴‍☠️ That show’s the heart and soul of our brand.

But wait, there’s more! We’re on a mission to connect with fellow fans who share that special love we’ve got for both takoyaki and anime. So, let’s bond over some seriously tasty food and epic adventures from the One Piece world! 🍢📺

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We’re the only ones in the DFW area making takoyaki from scratch, no shortcuts. Most places use frozen stuff, losing that real flavor and texture. Our goal? Give you that genuine Osaka street stall experience.

Here’s the backstory: Mariela wanted takoyaki, so Hou Si mastered making it. It took time, but we nailed a recipe that became Weebie Takoyaki’s signature.

Then the pandemic hit. With more time, we shaped our passion into a business. We wondered if people would love our takoyaki. Turns out, they did! Lessons learned: trust your gut and follow your passion.

Sure, life threw busy schedules our way, but we’re pros at juggling roles. We fine-tuned our act, making Weebie Takoyaki efficient and fun.

Our vision goes beyond food. We’re creating a space where anime fans can chat over fantastic takoyaki. Let’s make great food and memories, together! 🍡🍲

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First up, they can’t miss the Fort Worth Stockyards – pure Texan goodness. Then, there’s the Dallas Arboretum, perfect for a chill stroll. Oh, and they shouldn’t forget to check out the Gayborhood on Oaklawn St for some drinks and party!

Asia Time Square is a flavor-packed adventure, especially the food court – perfect for going hungry! If they’re here in September, the Texas State Fair is a must – fried food galore!

Craving Asian? Ddong Ggo, Below 40, and BBQ Chicken are the real deal. They won’t regret it!

Feeling outdoorsy? The Fort Worth Zoo is a blast, or they can kick back at Lake Ray Roberts State Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This one’s for our incredible friends who’ve been our partners in crime through endless taste tests, rocking the roles of volunteer photographers, and hands-down the most awesome cheerleaders. Y’all are the real MVPs! 🥳

And let’s not forget our amazing vendor pals – you’ve embraced us with open arms into the foodie fam and played a huge role in spreading our takoyaki love to even more people. 🤗 This dedication goes out to all of you who’ve made this journey beyond amazing! 🙌
