Meet Shey Jennings | Artisan & Creative thought leader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shey Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shey, why did you pursue a creative career?
Well..i’m not sure that I chose it more that it chose me. You see as I grew up more and more becoming more of who I am today (creative entrepreneur) I could see in myself even back then that I was slightly different. And just a little back story. I came from a really small town where jobs were only repeated by each generation, maybe a little more innovative than before but not far from the original.

I struggled trying to find myself in a world that could only relate to me at arms length. I was the kid that loved adventure but yet I spent most of my life sheltered, only exploring things that were at a reasonable distance to my home life. It was there that I realized that my brain hungered for more of what the world was around me. And there just as a young child learning to type and read for the first time. AoL and Google became my true outlet to knowing and understanding the world around me.

Creativity was the way I experience art in self-expression first in my clothes to my outward acceptance of the melting pot of cultures I was blessed to call my community. Creativity was more than a simple canvas, it was a creative life experience happening in every step of my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My art, much like many artists, comes out releasing the joy within you. My art form is more in the form of care. I along with my beautiful team hand make skincare for the conscious buyer or individuals that want a better connection with ingredients. We are slightly different in how we approach skincare by using balanced ingredients that feature seasonal produce and high vitamin oils and butters to create an overall healthy skin routine for the long run. We feature a middle ground for newcomers tip-toeing into clean beauty as well as the seasoned buyers that can identify their skin needs through fragrance-free and colorant free options.

The origin story for The Firefly Box came through a little dark moment in experiencing eczema for the first time. Not knowing where to turn, I turned to an over the counter treatment and hoped for relief. The products backfired and I watched my skin flare up and burn, my arms became paralyzed in pain.

One thing I would like for the world to know is that sensitive skin is not a burden but an opportunity to connect more with ourselves. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh there are so many great places, for the artist enthusiast check out the Sundance Square on the weekends you’ll enjoy a nice walk around a mix of shops,restaurants and live music great place to enjoy the scenery as well. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can definitely list hundreds of individuals that contributed to who I am now. But it can be drawn to the community that accepted my weird little self and took me in as who I came to be. From the war veterans that showed me determination yet the balance of love and war and how we can seek joy in the hardest times side by side by people that look nothing like us. To the school kids that agreed to be my friend despite my direct approach on how I asked “ You wanna be my friend?” it’s all through them that the kid that longed for adventure was heard and given a life full of experiences beyond the walls of my childhood home. It was through them all and my supportive close family that boosted me in being all the strength that I could ever ask for.
