Meet Katrina Hughes | Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katrina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a passion for making others feel beautiful, so I decided to become an esthetician. While attending school for my esthetics license, I realized my true calling was to own a spa. My vision for BEAUTY JUICE SPA & WELLNESS was to provide accessible skincare to every client. This idea evolved into a philosophy of life. Understanding how your skin affects how you feel and show yourself to the outside world can have a profound impact. We have a dogma about what beauty is and whether we can really live up to such high standards for ourselves. I’m a results-oriented esthetician who approaches every skin type pragmatically while providing mentoring along the way. I have valued my customers’ loyalty. It offers genuine rewards.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My long-held goal and dream of mine was to start my own business. The financial side of this sector is enormous and multi-leveled, ranging from private spas, corporate hotels, franchising, med spas, etc. I want to always refine my skill set and master every aspect of skincare and aesthetics. I have learned a lot from these experiences, and they have been both enjoyable and helpful for my development. I have had one concept during the entire process of character development that really spoke to me and that is Freedom. The freedom to express myself through my craft and in any way I saw fit. Many of my chapters and doors have come to an end, and when I first started to have confidence in myself, and trust in myself, it was then the BEST doors have opened. Every step led me to where I am and my journey continues. I face challenges each and every day in this business. I evaluate and address them as they come, move forward with persistence, and do not allow them to consume me. I have learned that consistency is always the key to success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most definitely we would spend the morning taking a bite out of Black history. With Dallas becoming this art deco haven and the center of entertainment with cultural and historic institutions, such as the African American Museum of Dallas, which houses a comprehensive collection that traces the history of Black Americans from Africa through enslavement and the Jim Crow era on to the present, we would start there, then embark the Soul of DFW Bus Tour which launches its four-hour Food and Black History bus tour. In that time we would try the different food and dessert options. After Klyde Warren Park, which is located on top of a highway, we would grab more to eat from the food trucks that line the park. And take a moment to relax in the 5.2 acres of green space under the shadow of the skyline.
If food trucks aren’t for you, hop on the free McKinney streetcar (there’s a stop on the side of the park) and ride into Uptown, where there are plenty of sit-down restaurants like San Martín Bakery and Haywire. When we are done, also take the streetcar back to Klyde Warren Park.
Maybe dinner in Trinity Grove, it has incredible views of the Dallas skyline, including the famous Bank of America Plaza outlined in green lights (locals call it the Jolly Green Giant) and the glittery lollipop that is Reunion Tower.
And we would end the night having cocktails at one of the many nightlife spots such as, Catbird, Komodo, Gallery Rooftop Lounge etc.. Just a great vibe, music, and laughs!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my Mom, my best-friends, Thelisha & Brandi, my cousin Lesa, and the best business partner Brandy, for always being the biggest supporters for me following my dreams, and always showing me love and rallying behind me. They are constantly pouring positivity into me. And a very special shoutout to my number 1 supporter who is no longer here, MY DAD. Without the drive, passion and hard work he showed, I wouldn’t have the drive to become my own boss. With his guidance, I’ve been able to become the boss he taught me to be. I love and miss him everyday, tremendously!
