We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Yvonne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is a role that my perspective has somewhat shifted on over the years, both professionally and personally. I used to be one who hesitated quite a bit when it came to taking risks, despite having a more spontaneous personality. The difference now is that I’ve seen the reward to taking what I call, risks with awareness. Being aware of what it is you’re trying to achieve and how taking that risk will affect the potential outcome is important to take note in, yet not get stuck in. It’s important to not overthink yourself to paralysis, but to make the jump if that is what you’re thinking of doing. Once you do, it pays to commit to the risk, so that you can see the result all the way through. That way, whether it accomplishes what you’re hoping, or not, you know the result came from the full effort in the risk and you can either feel that true sense of success in it, or replan. Personally, I love that feeling of committing to a risk. I feel it is most aligned with who I am.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I like to consider myself involved in several areas when it comes to the brand. On one end there is the scientific background I get to implement in formulation of my products. but a lot of it, which is what I enjoy maybe even more, is the creative aspect. Getting to conceptualize ideas for the brand, designing the packagings, everything from fonts to artistic layout, to bottle designs, materials, and photo composition are all part of what creates the brand’s aesthetics. Building a brand wasn’t easy, and perhaps the fact that it started more as a passion project, it was a little lower stakes for us in the beginning. We were able to build from the ground up at a pace that was comfortable. It wasn’t until we connected with other businesses or our community of customers that I really got to have more fun with it and see it grow. Some of the early challenges were related to figuring out how we were going to run a business out of the house fully. At the time I was still recovering from my health setback, but knew I would find a way to grow the brand while generating income. I guess you could say I became quite resourceful during that time, that now, being in positions where we are needing to work from home more due to the global health crisis, our business was able to continue forward. My brand really is something that is curated. I enjoy making formulas that are interesting and multi-purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Music concerts, large or small, good restaurants, or boba tea, will get me out. I personally enjoy any activity that allows me to either be a bit of a kid or that has to do with the arts. The arts district in Dallas has held some amazing music concerts, operas, and plays. I would definitely hit that up on the itinerary, while maybe popping into Klyde Warren Park for a movie on the lawn. When it comes to food, I’m quite loyal to local Mediterranean restaurants like Sachet or casual but delicious tacos like Velvet Taco. I can eat those for breakfast and dinner. If I’m entertaining family, I feel like Gloria’s has always had a nice atmosphere. In reality though, I’m probably more of a Nerdvana video game night kind of girl.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Recognition is due to my mentor for the researching we did behind the start of the brand, Dr. Robert Phillips, who worked closely with me at the start to get our true understanding and formulation process underway for the products. I would also definitely recognize my parents and good friends who have been supportive along the way. Those people who believe in what you do stand out forever.
