We had the good fortune of connecting with Dean Manuscript aka Big Rip and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dean, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The biggest habit that we formed is consistency, Show’s like Manuscript in the Morning, Rush It or Flush It & Hype Hour have become a staple and a identity of Tricoastal all because of being consistently on air and doing what I truly and naturally love to do anyway.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hip – Hop is the reason you are talking with me today PERIOD. I am a Emcee at heart. I’ve wrote rhymes since high school. 2012 I was about to drop a album title TDTFLS! (The Day The Fat Lady Sang) So I was approached to add my marketing to a Radio program and even the opportunity to own my own station. Fast forward 9 1/2 years we have found a formula of being in the street up close with artist with genuine support. It has not been easy the pandemic hurt our motion and health has been consent in my life, I’m a cancer survivor 10yrs now free and clear, I had a full facial degloving, 8weeks of chemo and radiation also I’m a dialysis patient since 2009 every Tue/Thur/Sat A.M. I have my laptop in every treatment diggin’ through emails and adding songs to rotation on the station or editing podcast passing the time. Music is my therapy. When my Guys and I are out and about and the artist tell Us how much they appreciate the things we do for them and how much they respect our ears it makes it all worth it sometimes lol! So yeah every thing we are TODAY has been done while I was fighting for my life LITERALLY in my G$ Lil Ronnie Voice
!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m really a introvert but I got great friends and connections all over Dallas / Fort Worth. If one would like to experience our art culture and a hub for fashion, you must visit Union Station FW at 310 Main Street right on Fort Worth’s Sundance Square it’s where all the cities Art + Dealers are welcome.Wanna see the nightlife I would just follow my buddy DJ Johnnie Judah to Vision’s Bar and party with him he has several residencies across the city where he keeps it lit 4 nights a week. When we need to fill our belly and recoup from dancing and partying with DJ Judah I’m going to Madea’s Soul Food in Everman, Tx Ox tails Greens Yams black eyed peas Hot water cornbread kinda place. Oh and the BEST BURGER IN THE CITY is at HOT SHOT GRILL on E. Berry in the Eastwood Neighborhood. Matter of fact we can ride the whole Berry street and feel the pulse of the city from TCU through the cities Southside and East.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not have my platform without Tyrone Cooper (RIH) aka Coop who gave me 1200 bucks to buy my station in October 2013. He’s gone on to glory but he lives through The Rhyme Tricoastal for sure. Next is my friend and collaborator DJ Johnnie Judah he has been around and taught me for over 5 years at least. He is a IT professional and computer wiz and a very HUGE part of what we are today far as the look and operation of Tricoastal’s Podcast & LIVE STREAM’S. Next All my podcast partners Cecilio Rodgers (RIH) Wigg, Judge, Highway, Kiddy, Four.5, Max Reno, Rob C, Pre Kay, Stu Akers, Red Washington, I need to mention them because they saw the platform and wanted to truly add and build / network. Last but not least my wife Shannika keepin’ me motivated when I was down in my health she has been the biggest rock! I learned early on in college I work better with others even if its my idea, I like a team. So I’m truly thankful for those who believe in Rip and see potential in myself & The Rhyme.
