Meet David Rubio | Designer & Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Rubio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a career as a creative because I felt like I would be able to thrive in it. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work in a field that I am passionate about and have the ability to utilize my God given gifts & talents.
It definitely feels most comfortable to me; it’s like second nature.
The fact that I get to work with other creators is a plus and we all speak the same language.
I also get to use the latest technologies as tools to create. This makes my job even more rewarding because I am able to mix my passion for creativity with my love for technology.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes from the heart! I enjoy many avenues in art which include painting murals, graphic design and photography.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the time I put into each project. My approach for every piece of art includes researching and planning, hunting for inspiration, and determining what will make the most impact.
I am proud and excited about the opportunities that help me get the word out about what I can offer, whether it’s a client referring me to new clients or a chance at an interview like this one.
I grew up loving art from a young age. I wanted to be able to draw as well as my Dad and my older brother. As I grew older I realized that many members of my family had artistic abilities. It was in our bloodline from my Dad’s and my Mom’s sides of the family. After high school, I went to college and received my certification for graphic design. I used my knowledge to gain a position as a graphic designer and I have been able to learn so much more while on the job.
It was not easy to get where I am today as far as my career goes, it comes with its challenges.
I started out in a small print shop in Garland, TX making yard signs and stickers. Every position I’ve held since then has been a building block in my career and has led me to where I am today.
I am now part of a team where I am managing multiple complex projects and accounts for a large manufacturer in Dallas, TX.
I have learned to focus on what makes me happy. The path I took required hard work and learning from mistakes. I’ve realized that “failures” can be great lessons that only make you better!
I would say the lessons I have learned along the way is that, I can’t force things to happen. I need to let go and let God. I learned to not stress about things that are out of my control.
I try to focus on one thing at a time. As I run into obstacles on different projects, I have learned to step away for a little while. This allows me to recalibrate and come back to it with a renewed focus to get the job done.
My hope is as others see my work, they are able to identify the light, the love, the passion and the dedication that goes into each project or piece.
I hope I can inspire not only my own kids but also all the young creatives out there in the world. Pursue your passion and do not give up if you feel you have a purpose in life.
Inspiration is contagious!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good question.
Sunday I would go to Texas Live to watch the Cowboys game with Family and friends, to enjoy.
some food and drinks.
Monday go to the new skatepark in Garland. After that get dinner over at China Bowl express.
Tuesday go to Deep Ellum to check out the art scene. Get some pictures of the all the paintings and Murals. Then go to Down Town Dallas and that get some more pictures and fly my drone around and get some good video. Stop for a bite to eat at Cane Rosso.
Wednesday go to the Star in Frisco and eat at Laynes Chicken Fingers.
Thursday go see a new Marvel Movie at the Studio Movie Grill in Dallas and eat at Mariano’s, Home of the original margaritas.
Friday go to the Dallas Museum of Art and eat some wings and have a Sweet Tea at Pluckers wing bar.
Saturday go eat at El Fenix for dinner and then go see the Dallas Mavericks at the AAC.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I would like to Thank God! He blessed me with a creative eye and the artistic ability as my gift.
Secondly, I would like to give credit to my family. They are a big reason I am who I am today. They encourage and inspire me to do what I do. My older brother has been a good source for advising me on setting a career path, he has guided me through my education to land the jobs I want. My parents and younger brother have been very supportive of me since I was a young aspiring artist. My In-Laws have also been a source of encouragement.
My wife is another key pillar in what drives my inspiration in what I do. Not only is she there for critical feedback but also has a keen eye in the arts. Ultimately, she has helped me focus and realize my soul purpose is to create.
Lastly, my friends and coworkers in my field have always been there to teach and motivate me. I’ve had great teachers and mentors along my journey that I owe a deep gratitude to where I am currently. My development over the years has been inspired by their achievements and artistic endeavors.
