We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Prior to opening my own aesthetics practice, I was working as a nurse injector and felt I wasn’t in control of my patients consultation or treatment plan. In regards to injectables, I was restricted to specific treatment areas, techniques, and products. I wasn’t able to grow into the nurse injector that I knew I could be. That is when a light bulb clicked and decided that I could create an aesthetics practice that is patient centered and I could give my patients the best outcomes by utilizing the many tools this industry has to offer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I knew I wanted to be a nurse in my 20s. I gradually took classes here and there, but I finally finished my bachelors degree in 2017. I worked as a bedside nurse for about 3 years. I definitely enjoyed learning that realm of nursing, but I felt like I was missing something. When I was performing skills, especially starting IVs, it made me excited. When other nurses would ask me to start their IVs, I secretly jumped for joy.
I searched the internet for nursing positions where I could be hands on and perform skills. Medical aesthetics was on that list. The more I read about it, the more I became elated. I was hired on as an Aesthetic RN and the first training, the first hands-on, I knew this was going to be my forever career. I didn’t realize until that moment, that I also held an artistic eye to facial anatomy.
I think what sets me a part from other injectors is that I’m not in it to be Instagram famous. I don’t care about the number of followers I have. I would rather have 100 loyal followers that are patients than 100k followers that just scroll through my content. I’m pretty old school and I would much rather go from house to house and meet people face to face.
I am most proud of the way that I am growing my practice organically. I’m staying true to who I am and not allowing outside trends dictate what I do. Slow and steady wins the race. I’m most excited to be able to help men and women feel more confident and break the stigma that the aesthetics industry has. My aesthetic eye is natural and undetectable, not overdone. I will tell a patient “no”, if I think that it’s unsafe or not aesthetically pleasing.
Where I am now is not where I want to be, but I know that it’s part of the process. Being every employee in your business is hard. You’re the receptionist, salesperson, social media manager, marketing team, photographer, I mean the list goes on. It’s never been easy, but I’m happy that it hasn’t been. I think that the challenges have humbled me and has also wiped away the “honeymoon” thoughts of owning a business. It’s stressful and time consuming. You are literally thinking of your business 24/7. One of my biggest challenges is social media. I don’t dance, lip synced, or have the creativeness to think of good content. I haven’t overcome that yet and maybe I never will, but it’s something that I will work on every day.
The biggest lesson I have learned is not to sell myself short just to bring in patients. I know my worth. I know the hard work I’ve put it to provide the best care for my patients.
I want the world to know that Clover Aesthetics is all about being the rarity that is a four leaf clover! Each person is unique and I build on their beauty. Come GET LUCKY with me at Clover Aesthetics! I’m not hard to find, but you’ll be lucky you found me!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I think about fun things to do, I think about risky and high adrenaline activities. I would take them skydiving at SkyDive Dallas because that is by far the most breathtaking experience I have ever experienced. The high you get from jumping out of an airplane is simply indescribable. Next, we’d go to the fastest go-carts in the area, Dallas Karting Complex. To calm it down a bit at night time, we’d go to a comedy club because laughter is the best medicine. My favorite is The Improv in Addison. I’m really into country music and two steppin’ so any bar downtown Fort Worth would be ideal. As far as food and drink, I’m all about that home grilled food. Invite some friends over for downtime on the patio while the kids play in the yard.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so appreciative of the Neowell Aesthetics Program in Plano, Texas. The owner, Deanna, has been a huge support of me and Clover Aesthetics. The program has guided me in the right direction and has given me tools in starting my own practice. Not to mention, she hires some of the best nurse injectors in DFW to facilitate monthly hands-on training for its members. I have learned about new products hitting the market to techniques that help reach a patient goals. It’s been an absolute key component in my success thus far.
I’d also like to shoutout my husband, Matt. His support and encouragement means the world to me. I struggle with confidence often, but he’s always there to reassure me that I can do anything I put my mind to. Knowing he believes in me, makes me believe in myself.
