We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Arney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, every day, we hear about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
With my love for accounting, I knew since high school that’s the career that I wanted. Once I graduated from college, I kept getting offers to be a computer programmer. I knew if I went that route, I wouldn’t be happy, and I’d be stuck in that career. I quit my programming job and registered with a temporary agency. I was sent on assignments with small business owners doing their books. That’s how I ended up with most of my business being bookkeeping services for small and medium-sized businesses. Upon building my client base I knew I could not be in one person’s office all day long. In 2015 when I started BbK Services 556 it was based on it being a remote bookkeeping business. Fast forward to the pandemic it helped to solidify remote work. At that point I brought on employees.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets BbK Services 556 apart from other bookkeeping businesses is that we are all four-year degreed accountants. As a bookkeeper you do not have to have a degree. With us being educated in the accounting field we understand certain items show up on the Balance Sheet & Profit and Loss statements. I’m also learning that people in my industry people tend not to get back to their clients when they ask questions. Anytime our clients send us an email, we respond in less than 24 hours. If we do not have the answer, we have weekly meetings that we discuss so that we’re all on the same page and we can better inform our clients. With us being remote you could be invisible and not viewed as part of the team. To make ourselves visible. We do quarterly zoom meetings with our clients to make sure that they have reviewed their financials. Ask them what direction their business is going in so that moving forward we can produce the correct reports for them to make their business successful. This also helps us to make sure everything is categorized correctly before the end of the year, saving both us and the client time and energy. This makes tax preparation easier. Has this been easy? No, but between my family, organizations I’m involved in and my staff, it has made the path easier. I listen to people’s knowledge as well as their input and try to implement it in my business daily.
What I want people who don’t know about my brand and story is that whatever your passion is, follow it. There’s going to always be things put in your path to distract you. You must always stay true to what makes you happy because life is short. Your passion will then overflow and show other people this might be interested in your path that is possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week here in the DFW area. I know she likes Sushi; I would take her to the best Sushi restaurants, spa treatment (massage, facial, etc. movies). That is one of the main reasons why I love living in the DFW area. Whatever you’re into it is here in abundance, you just have to search it out.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My support, mentorship, love, and encouragement come from my family. My husband Samuel and my two adult children Julian and Blair who are always helping me in my business. Mentorship comes from learning to network through LiftFund and Lewisville Chamber of Commerce. Both organizations have taught me the importance of building relationships as I build my business.
