We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Heneden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The number one rule that I have always followed is to bet on myself. I bet on myself no matter the obstacle and no matter how uncertain things may look at the time. I took a risk when I chose to do my own thing, even if it took me across the country and it did. I had no idea where I was going to land after high school, but once I heard about Berklee College of Music, I ended up in Boston, MA. From that moment on, I saw just how far you can go if you listen to yourself and follow your heart, your dreams tend to listen to you when you truly desire them. So, all this goes to say that risks have made my career. Risks have put me in positions where I have felt the most pressure and forced me to see what I was capable of and who I was. Risks have forced me to find my voice. Risks have forced me to discover my sound.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make music for the hopeless romantics, especially the ones who have been hurt before and continue to pursue love. What sets me apart from others is my openness to being vulnerable. I am not afraid of baring my soul and connecting to someone on a personal level. I am not afraid to try different things and explore new sounds and themes. I got to where I am today, by focusing on the bigger picture, which is the future. I am obsessed with touching things that I have dreamt about. I am obsessed with making dreams a reality and getting to experience all of the great things that life has in store. Focusing on the bigger picture requires determination, resilience, studying, confidence, faith, and a certain level of fearlessness. No, it was not easy, I did a lot of crying and head-banging against the wall. I had to overcome challenges that come with the question, “How?”. I had no idea how I was going to make any of this happen or even get to a place where I could make any of this happen. I had no idea how I was going to make my mark or even make the music that I need to make now. I have learned that if you do everything with love and put your best foot forward that everything is going to work out. it might not work out in the way that you originally wanted it to, but trust that it will work out. I want the world to know that I am coming. I am up next! Prepared to be sick of me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Bishop Arts District. That area is cool and has a lot of great places to visit. It is artsy and I love the art on the walls. You can go out to eat at different restaurants like Oddfellows, which is a great breakfast and brunch spot. I love breakfast so I am always going to take someone somewhere nice to get some good breakfast food. Norma’s is a cool spot too and they serve breakfast all day. A great burger spot would be Hunky’s. This place makes me feel like I’m in an old-school diner and I love that feeling. If you like pies, I would go to Emporium Pies, everything is delicious there. If I were to take them outside of the Bishop Arts District, I would take them to get some tacos and burritos from Fuel City or Fuel Town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want everyone that saw me while I was in the early stages of development in my creative journey. I want to thank every teacher that saw a girl with raw talent, but needed structure and training. Thank you for believing in that girl and taking the time to instill not only your knowledge but belief in me. I want to thank everyone that heard my music when I was still trying to figure things out and seeing the potential in it. I want to thank my friends and family for their support. Lastly, I have to shout out my main man, my partner in crime, my friend, the god, and my producer, Stephen J. Pilat.
