Meet Kiersten Humber | Virtual Executive Assistant | Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiersten Humber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiersten, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been a creative at heart. Whether it was dance, art, apparel or graphics for social media. I love being able to work with a client and help bring their vision to life. It’s a form of therapy for me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After spending the last 9 years of my life working as an administrative assistant and office manager for other companies I realized that I was settling. I had developed so many skills over the years yet, I was still stuck, undervalued and overworked. I had been doing research about becoming a virtual assistant on and off for a few years prior, but never acted on it. At the time, I was a mother of four working full time and decided it was time. I wanted to take control , work on my terms. I started my business while still working full time as an office manager. At that time I was only doing Virtual Assistant tasks, a few months later incorporated social media management and haven’t looked back. After about One year of working full time, my business part time along with being a mom and wife; I was extremely burned out. I knew that between the full time job and My business, one would have to go. After sitting down with my husband he told me to quit my job and focus on my business full time. In the beginning I fought it. He then asked me “ Do you believe in yourself” I replied, “yes”. “ Are you willing to bet on yourself?” I replied “ yes”. There was my answer. My last day at my full time job was on my 27th birthday. My new beginning. I’ve worked my butt off daily, whether it’s client work and marketing my self. Has it been easy? Absolutely NOT! Especially being a work from home mom. If I’m being honest, I don’t think it will EVER be easy. It’s not supposed to be. People on social media make it look so easy, they flash the money, the experiences, being able to work anywhere in the world. But what they don’t show is the sacrifice, the constant “NO”, the non payments, the late payments, the part where they are figuring everything out as they go. They don’t show you real life. I learned throughout this journey that discipline is KEY in making this work and being successful. You have to be quick on your feet, a quick communicator, organized, a planner etc. most importantly WILLING to learn. You’ve got to be able to adapt. At the end of the day, people will try to detour your purpose for your brand, you are the brand and the reason for its very existence. You write the story.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Devonte Humber! For pushing me to step out on faith, bet on myself and start my business. He’s stood by me in support, given me advice throughout my journey, consistently pushing me to be a better version of myself and show up as my best self everyday!
