We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Blake Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn Blake, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Jumping all into my business. Real estate is so up and down and having enough confidence in yourself to be 100% commission and believing you can get things done to help support your family, is nerve wrecking sometimes – but doing it anyway.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Real estate is crazy. Thats like the best way to explain it. Every transaction something new happens, you’re constantly on your toes with the different scenarios. But it’s the best. I actually met my husband through past clients. I got here because I decided I wanted to be in real estate, like right out of high school but I was too nervous to take the plunge. Then after trying a bunch of failed attempts at other careers I thought “why don’t I just dip my toes and see if I like it” So I became a Licensed Real Estate Assistant for two years. I loved everything about it. I loved my company, I loved real estate and when my husband got out of the Army I went out on my own and its been amazing. It definitely has not been easy, but through the foundation that was built for me to succeed by being an assistant I learned early on to persevere. Statistically a lot of new agents quit real estate by their 1 year mark and I have done everything in my power to make sure that I haven’t ended up as one of the statistics. Real estate is not for everyone. You have to have a lot of patience and self motivation to get things done. The way I feel I have been able to stand out from other agents (or from what i’ve been told by past clients). I really make sure to go above and beyond for my clients. Like I really do everything in my power to make sure my clients have the best experiences possible. I also have had clients who reached out to me and need time- they can’t buy or sell right away- almost like they’re scared to ask questions even when they can’t purchase in the next 30 days- and I think a lot of people think we’re like lawyers, where you get billed for every little thing. It’s not like that at all. At least for me. I do know other agents who just kind of forget about you if you can’t bring them income right away and thats not how I do business. I have multiple clients right now I keep in touch with who can’t buy or sell within the next 6 months to a year. Business is business and I want all my clients to feel they can ask questions about processes and advice at all times. I treat my clients that way because thats how I would want to be treated during my own transactions if I wasn’t a Realtor myself. The money will come, but how you made someone feel in any moment is eternal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Worth Stockyards first. 100%. The stockyards are for sure one of my favorite places and I love sharing the experiences and culture right off the bat. The whole day. Cattle drive at 11:30, Lucchese & Old Gringo to look at cool boots, Risckys BBQ for lunch, Best Hat Store to look at hats, National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame at the Coliseum. Then a concert at Billy Bobs to top it off
We’d have to visit Teskeys in Weatherford – cause why not? Then the Fort Worth Zoo, Or Modern Art Museum or Texas Motor Speedway! Maybe stick to the western themes and go to Rancho La Rosa for a ride. I’ll even go up to the Colony and shop and hangout in the courtyard!
Food wise – Oof there’s so much: Ol’ South Pancake House, H3 Ranch, Coopers Old Time BBQ, Trailboss Burgers, Biscuit Bar, 97 West Kitchen & Bar, Cattlemen’s Steak House, Taco Heads, Joe T Garcias Mexican, Pho District DFW, Velvet Taco, Chuy’s, Texas De Brazil, Pacific Fort Worth- I mean the list could go on its food heaven here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would 100% not be able to be doing real estate if it wasn’t thanks to my husband Will for holding down the fort and supporting my dreams. He has been the backbone of my business and the core in how I do business. I also want to thank my Real Estate company – Magnolia Realty Granbury| Fort Worth for believing in me as well, I have all the tools I need to succeed from being under them and Wendy answering my phone calls at all hours of the days with answers to my questions. And last but certainly not least I have to thank Rachel Holman and Abbey O’Brien for taking a chance on me 3 years ago and teaching me everything I know now, I owe a lot of my success to y’all.
