We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Abram and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started Abram Digital because I’ve always been a fan of business and I reached a point in my career where experience design alone was no longer fulfilling to me. Now don’t get me wrong, I love all things design, but after almost 10 years of various projects, I wanted more for myself. I’m interested in leadership, advertising, and ownership, and value my time a lot more, which is ironic given I work a lot more.
Also I have kids and I want them to know that there is more than just one way to make a dollar, and the best way (from my perspective) is to do it with your own business.
Another reason is I generally enjoy advertising and want to help the smaller mom and pops shops as well as small businesses do better with their marketing. I know a lot of companies rely on referrals, and although that’s great, it’s not as creative or as scalable. Plus, I’d like to help these companies get a point where they have so much business that they can choose to retire early. After all, that’s why most businesses get started – the freedom.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called Abram Digital and we provide creative and digital advertising for small businesses and startups. Some of our services include video, web design, social media strategies, paid social and search, and other digital marketing solutions. We’re young, new, and hungry to provide creative solutions that move the needle for business. I guess one could say that overall, we provide advertising in whatever way we need to.
Our uniqueness to the advertising world is what sets us apart from your typical agency. Because I’m from more of a tech-focused background, I’m able to give a different perspective than say someone who graduated from ad school, and though creative, we’re also able to provide the digital characteristic of advertising that so many smaller companies forget about.
Right now, I’d say I’m most proud of simply being able to make the jump. It’s not easy to hop into an industry opposite of what you’re used to. I’m also happy to be one of so many black agency owners, especially those in advertising.
We have so much to give to this world and I plan on doing it through Abram Digital in the most creative way I can think of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a nature guy so they’d have to start with the Dallas Arboretum. Check out the plants, nature, and slow beauty of what’s around us, especially being in a busy city like DFW. It’ll force you to slow down a bit.
Next up, grab some Razzoo’s wherever you can find it. Order a poyboy, or go simple and grab some catfish. Extra spices. I’m big on cajun food as both of my parents are from Louisiana.
Last, I’d tell them to end the day at North Park. Do a little shopping, people watch, and don’t forget to get some ice-cream from Eataly. They have the absolute best. Heck, while you’re at it, taste some pasta too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course! I’m a huge fan of Think and Grow Rich, and have read it multiple times. It’s probably more of mindset fix than anything, but since reading it, I’ve changed my life in a very short time. I’ve read more than my share of Napoleon Hill books over the last 3 years or so.
I’d also like to recognize my parents and my wife. They have all helped me in more ways than one with encouragement and constant love that pushes me to want more for myself and family.
