We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Moye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Creativity has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I recall being in elementary school and having school projects, and my mom would always help me go above and beyond to have the most creative work. It was only natural for me to gravitate towards a career that allowed me to express my individuality and creativity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My passion for hair began in 2014, a woman walked into my retail job and had the most beautiful indigo hair I had ever seen. I immediately asked her how she achieved the color and after she told me I purchased everything she suggested. I failed miserably trying to achieve the beautiful color I saw. I continued to try and fail at getting beautiful, bold bright colors, then one day it clicked, I found my rhythm and my passion grew even stronger. While I was learning to perfect vivid colors I had another challenge at hand, learning to care for natural hair at the same time. Unfortunately, the natural hair community wasn’t as popular as it is now, so it was a lot of trial and error, with little help with discovering what’s right and what’s wrong. Thankfully, after a lot of research and mentoring I was able to provide my clients with beautiful healthy hair. Actually caring for the quality of hair is something that separates me from a hairstylist that will tell you whatever you want to hear, so you can be sat in their chair. I’m a stylist who will listen to your needs and work on a plan that fits right for you and your hair goals. I believe strongly in transparency and honesty. If a client is asking for something that I know will compromise their hair, I will not shy away from letting them know it’s something we can’t do and that we have to reevaluate our hair plan. My goal is to provide you with knowledge on how to properly care for your hair so you can begin a healthy hair journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m what they call a transplant, I’ve been here a little under 2 years, but I’ve found my way around a few places. I’m not a morning person at all so we’d start the week with a brunch at Yolk, they have such a tantalizing menu that you can’t go wrong with anything you choose. From there we’d head to Deep Ellum to walk the strip and shop at the local pop up market. During the week we’d visit two bit circus to play a variety of arcade and vr games and to you guessed it, eat all the carnival food our hearts desire.I’d definitely take them to the north park shopping so they can see how unique the layout is and do some much needed retail therapy. It’s definitely a must that we visit Grandscape so we can ride the Ferris wheel while watching the sunset. If they were feeling adventurous we would go to Midgaurd and visit Genie, so we could get some cute tattoos. The trip wouldn’t be complete without taking them to the revolving sushi bar Kura and then heading next door to Somi Somi for ice cream.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s a honor for me to dedicate this shoutout to my mother, Latanya. Unfortunately, I recently lost her to Covid-19, but she is with me in spirit with everything I do. She is my biggest inspiration and has always encouraged me to do what makes me happy. I am thankful for the values she has instilled in me & for the life lessons she has taught me. With each stepping stone I reach in life, I sit back and reflect on how proud she would be.
