We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Rush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, how do you think about risk?
I owe a lot of my success to risk taking. I often interchange “risk taking” with “opportunity for growth”.

I’ve lived in the Dallas TX area my entire life. I had never visited Los Angeles until 2018 when I went as Guest Artist at Larisa Love Salon.

Initially when I reached out I was not expecting a yes.

Then when I did get a yes, I panicked and spent 4 months trying to use Instagram ads to gain clients in the area.

When the time came for me to fly out I cried on my way to the airport, I felt like such a fraud.

When I met Larisa she asked me how many clients I had for the week? I re[plied “None yet, but worst case scenario this will be a vacation… nice to meet you!” haha!

Long story short I went with my backup plan and flew my best friend out . I did my friends hair so I could show my work, and we had a ball!

In the end I figured out how to advertise, build a clientele, and successfully work in LA for the past four years at Larisa’s Salon as well as Ramirez Tran Salon in Beverly Hills.

I look at risk as a measurement of potential growth.

I don’t let my emotions be in the driver seat and break down the pro’s and cons and ask myself how will this affect me?

If it goes awry, what is my exit strategy? Ultimately you will never fail if you accept everything as a learning experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
My salon, Creative Culture Hair is located in Frisco, TX. One of the things I believe we get right is our cross training. When it comes to guiding our clients through an experience, we strive do everything the same. We greet, consult, chart, shampoo, and style the same in order to provide a stable environment for our clients that have all textures of hair.
This also helps cultivate teamwork because we can depend on each other to help pick up the slack and care about the details.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

In Frisco we could go to Daily Grinds for coffee and breakfast. If we go into Dallas for brunch or lunch I like Paradiso. For Lunch or Dinner in Dallas, a few of my favorite places are: Montlake Cut for crab fried rice, oysters and a delicious cocktail. For some night life, of my favorite bar/lounges right now is Cat Bird inside the Thomson hotel. A few options for activities you can visit Klyde Warren Park, they have lots of food trucks and events. Other fun options are; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Cowboys Football game, or in Frisco, we have FC Dallas soccer games.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m very thankful for Larisa Love, she helped me get my foot in the door in Los Angeles. She is an incredibly kind, talented, and genuine person. Also, my Dentist Dr. Tony is one of my mentors and his business and leadership advice has drastically helped change my business for the better.
