We had the good fortune of connecting with Christi Nix Bloomer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christi, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think most of the balance comes down to boundaries. Because balance isn’t really a thing anyway – when have you seen anything that’s always in perfect balance for more than a few minutes?!? Brene’ Brown states boundaries are all about what’s OK and what’s not OK. For me, balance at work is what hours are OK for me to work and when my work must stop (typically) for me to be productive, feel good about my health and do my best at work. Balance (and boundaries) are all about knowing enough about myself to get still, tap into what I know I need and articulating that with strength, courage and faith. And also realizing I can’t control everything around me – just me!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve spent 20+ years in HR, HR software and management consulting (13+ with the Big 4) working with large governments, healthcare companies and tech giants. I’ve learned from the best, seen the brightest and still have the ability to cut through the fluff. I’m happiest when my people get what they want – promotions, more family time, fewer meetings, strong boundaries and more of what they love. And spoiler alert, I don’t have this all figured out – I learn (and grow) in these areas daily!

I have the uncanny ability to see you deeply, profoundly and can harness the best of you to move you forward to help you do the work you were born to do! I’ve coached entry level people up to those in the C suites and some things remain the same – all people want to be seen, heard and make a difference in their own way. I help them do that.

I’m known for my empathy, love of books, learning and always wanting to help people grow.

On my path, I’ve been recognized for my acerbic humor, one public singing tragedy, using made-up words, testing out different accents and once, fainting mid pose in a drawing class.

My clients now are those leaders that need to put the oxygen mask on themselves. They’re burned out, worn down and know that what’s gotten them here is no longer sustainable. I help them get clear on what’s most important, how to align work to their passion, helping people look back to move forward and what’s OK and not OK anymore (#boundaries).

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy drinking and perusing art here https://www.lovelocalcoffee.com/. I’ve been a fan of the Kimbell for years – their Monet exhibit a few years ago, the stunning views, the gifts, etc. I also had my headshots done on the grounds too.

For restaurants, I love Nona Tata and Spiral diner and bakery on Magnolia. And almost anything on W 7th is great too! And the sushi at Wasabi Sushi Japanese on Hulen is greatness!

For shopping (which I don’t do often), I enjoy DSW and Cartan’s shoes on Magnolia. And thrift shopping at Berry Good Buys has opened my eyes to surprising finds that are sleek and affordable!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The main reason I can do what I do is the support system around me. I could not have begun my entrepreneurial and self discovery journey without the support of my husband! He’s my greatest cheerleader in the most understated way possible.

I’m also blessed to have a myriad of coaches and consultants around me. While I’m not paying for a coach right now (which is odd), I have the support of my colleagues who coach me through my tears, triumphs and helping me tap into what I know is best for me right now. And, at this time, it’s not someone else’s formula for what’s worked best for them!

Awesome thanks to my therapist, bless her heart! She’s had a heavy load, that’s for sure!

Shoutout to my daughter too. She’s made me learn more about myself than I ever could without her! She’s pushed me, driven me absolutely bananas and I love her so much, it brings tears to my eyes! She’s the gift I never knew I needed!

Also all my love to the authors, podcasts and audiobooks I listen to on the daily. Without my intake of knowledge and people with whom i can share that, I’d feel like I’m wasting away in this world! #LifelongLearner

And finally, my extended family. The undying love of my mom, faithful BFF/sister and everyone else that is a phone call away! You’re the best!
