We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayme Walther and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dayme, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, it’s something that has just sort of evolved. About 10 years ago, my husband and I flipped our first house and then it just kind of took off from there. I helped friends with their nurseries as they all had babies and then that led to living rooms and then entire homes. I grew up watching my grandmother sew everything from drapes to bedding to the clothes I wore. My dad is very handy and was always renovating some part of our home. As a child, I guess I was somewhat spoiled to think that if I could dream it up, someone could make it happen.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Jenny Grumbles and I have just launched our own wallpaper line. It’s been a dream for quite some time and we finally sat down long enough to make it happen. It wasn’t easy! Who knew designing and printing wallpaper would be so hard.
Every day in this profession is a learning experience. I don’t have a degree in interior design, I just have an eye for it. When your job is being involved with everything from plumbing to styling bookshelves, it’s impossible to know it all. I learn something every single day and that’s part of the fun!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if a friend is visiting me, they’re probably going to have to do the “afternoon shift” with me. At our house this is what we call it because each day starting at 3:00 going into the late evening is spent driving kids from one activity to the next.
Dinner would probably be on the go at one of our Lake Highlands favorites. Our family rotation includes Taco Joint, Shady’s, Vector Brewing, grabbing a mambo Mi Cocina and then stopping for treat at Yogurtland. Of course we would squeeze in a local high school football before attending our own weekend full of sports.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
100% my family on both sides! Everyone had other careers, but had very handy and creative hobbies, so I guess it’s just in my blood. My grandparents built a cabin in Colorado, another grandmother was an amazing seamstress and my dad has renovated and added on to my parents house. We all just kind of love it I guess.
