We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Lokko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
While starting a business is hard work, my drive was to create freedom and quality of life, not just for myself, but all who needed something fresh. Yes. Lol I work longer hours as a business owner, but guess what? I expect a huge ROI for myself and my community.

What should our readers know about your business?
Growing up I was always fascinated with magazines, television, and radio. I use to act out parts, and transform my voice as if I was a radio announcer. I found myself writing what I know now is script, but I had no idea then what that was. As I grew older and followed the industry I saw ugly patterns of abuse, neglect, stereotyping, body shaming, and other tactics that made individuals feel like they don’t matter and they had nothing to offer. I wanted to create a safe place for individuals who wanted to just showcase their craft, and build a business with it. WOAW Media Consulting Firm LLC provides training, development, and consulting services to industry talent. We help show them how to own their own talent, how to care for themselves, how to develop healthy financial habits, and how not to compromise for the $$$$$. I am excited about the collaborations we have formed in the DFW. We want to keep the talent working in the DFW, and not feel they have to leave home to be successful. The community can expect us to build revenue, relationships, and safe places for but not limited to: writers, filmmakers, producers, directors, models, actors, actresses, photographers, and videographers. We own our own TV network FMD Global TV and also our magazine, Bold & Unique Business Magazine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop, Chocolate Secrets on Oak Lawn Ave. / Dolce Paradiso Bakery & Cafe in Addison Circle / On The Border on Beltline in Addison / In Living Colour Studio in Farmers Branch / Mosaic Makers Collective on Bishop Ave.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents: Clerance & Dorothy Marable Grandmother: Fannie Mae Dixon
All of my friends, clients, business partners, and the community.
