We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Briana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I originally started my business after asking God for something to do outside of corporate America that I was passionate about and could make money doing. In 2016, He let me know I would have a t-shirt line, but I initially rejected this, as I felt the market was saturated. Fast forward to 2021, I was finally ready to face my fears and start the business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My educational background is in business, both in supply chain management and in marketing. I have worked professionally for a few companies since 2013, but as of May of this year, I’ve decided to work for myself full time. Given my previous jobs, I would say I have a well versed background in risk management and sourcing, which is essential to my role in shetriedHER. However, having only coursework and not actual experience in marketing, is an area I struggle in with my business. While marketing isn’t my strong suit, I’ve learned to give myself grace, have fun, try different approaches and take notes from other successful small business owners.

Because I’ve learned to give myself grace in this process of becoming a business owner, that is what I want people to gather from my brand; give yourself some grace, try new things, honor yourself and don’t be afraid to heal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so many great things to do in the city, but if my best friend was visiting, I would take them to two distinct areas. On Friday night, we would spend time in Deep Ellum, specifically at the Freeman for live music and a great po-boy. On Saturday, we would spend the day in Frisco visiting the Star and grabbing lunch at Tupelo Honey. After lunch, we would head to Legacy Food Hall to sit outdoors, grab a few drinks and taste test the awesome food and deserts. On Sunday, we would head to the Stockyards in Fort Worth and be sure to eat and drink locally.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The biggest shoutout would be God and immediately following, the women in my life who are my biggest supporters. This includes, but isn’t limited to, my mother, grandmother, best friends and cousins. They have been the ones in helping me get started, running ideas by, modeling, advertising, assisting at pop-ups, and so much more.
