We had the good fortune of connecting with Elyse Stoltz Dickerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elyse Stoltz, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After leaving corporate America, my business partner and I wanted to start a business that met an under-addressed need in the market. I spoke to as many doctors as possible to see what unmet need was present, and a lot of the doctors were saying the same thing: ear care needed innovation. With my experience in the eye care category, I knew this was something my business partner and I could tackle together. We got to work in the lab and began formulating our best-selling product, EARWAX MD. The rest is history!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Eosera is a biotechnology company that addresses under-served healthcare needs. After we found that the ear care category was lacking innovation, in 2015 we created a product that dissolves earwax in as quick as 15 minutes, as opposed to simply softening wax over the course of 4 days. Now, we have over 7 products in our comprehensive product line that can be found in over 28K retail stores across the country, including stores like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite
Aid, Amazon, Kroger, and Albertsons. We’re really proud of the rocket-like growth we’ve experienced since our first product hit store shelves. It’s been a wild ride to see us go from an idea to mass distribution in 7 short years. Our team has grown and our product line has expanded, but it wasn’t always easy. There are hiccups every day– almost every hour– that we have to work through as a team. There are major setbacks, like COVID and the issues with the
supply chain, that we don’t let get us down. I am proud of our team’s ability to pivot and collaborate when things go wrong and come up with creative solutions for challenges we didn’t see coming. I’m also proud that we manufacture our products in Fort Worth, TX. We’ve evaded a lot of issues due to COVID because we manufacture in-house, not to mention the jobs we’ve been able to create over the years to boost the economy. If we can do all this in 7 years, I’m excited for our future and for what’s next. I’m thrilled with our team and the work we’ve done to become the company we are now. I can’t thank the community of DFW enough for the support and encouragement we’ve experienced. Being an entrepreneur in DFW is a dream come true.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I’d love to take this person to see our Eosera facility. It’s incredible to see manufacturing in action and all the details that allow a product to go from a manufacturer to on-shelf. Next, I’d love to take them to see all the amazing art in DFW. The museums in DFW are worth exploring in depth. There are too many good restaurants to name, but rest assured, this friend would eat BBQ and great Mexican food. We’d go to The Fort Worth Stockyards to get them fitted for boots and to see the cattle drive. We would go cycling on the trinity river and see the Kennedy Museum in Dallas. A week in DFW is hardly long enough to see all the amazing things and meet all the friendly, incredible people that live here!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that helped in my journey in starting and sustaining Eosera. My business partner, Joe Griffin, definitely deserves a shoutout. Before we had a product, before we had an idea, Joe and I were a team and knew we could create something amazing together. We’ve got many things left to accomplish, but looking back, we’ve done some truly remarkable things with a scrappy, intelligent team and motivation to make Eosera a success. Another person I’d like to shout out is my mom, Elaine Stoltz. She is a huge inspiration to me. As a business owner for over 30 years, my mom showed me what it takes to run a business. There are countless other people I could name that have helped me along the way!
