We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
There have been many deciding factors in my career that have launched me closer to where I want to be. Don’t get me wrong, I have also made decisions that have sent me back. I believe when you focus on your goals and not what everybody else is doing, that is the best thing you could ever do for yourself. It is true, comparison kills. Once I began to fully express myself through my work, I noticed a huge shift in my business. I had more confidence which led to more clients and more opportunity because people feed off of confidence.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been doing photography for about six years but I didn’t really find any success in it until about two years ago. This goes to show that good things take time. Because things have gone uphill in the last two years, I feel as if people think I only have been doing photography for a couple years. In reality I have been taking photos for several years but I have always been a very visual person for as far as I can remember. Luckily, I started at a very young age so I had more freedom to make mistakes but it hasn’t been easy by any means. In a way, because I was so young I had to compensate for my age so I would work even harder to prove myself and it has definitely paid off. One thing that I truly believe in is that if you put your mind to something, you can do it..
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
without a doubt, wayward coffee is hands-down the best coffee in Dallas. I would start there and then walk around the streets of Bishop arts if the weather permits because it is crazy hot in Texas. I love to see different things on the daily. So if I were showing someone around, I would spend a day and each of the cute little districts/pockets of Dallas. I’m still fairly new to the city so a lot of the exploring would be new for me as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There isn’t one specific person who has supported me more than another. I will say majority of the people in my life have been the ones who have created a space for me to grow into my career. I’m always looking for ways to connect and develop. I am beyond thankful for everyone who has watched me grow from a young girl who wanted to skip the 9-5 to being self employed.
