We had the good fortune of connecting with Evin DeShawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evin, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Virginia Beach,Va and that’s something that I say with pride. It’s truly nothing like VA it’s not the country but, not fully the city life either. It’s like it’s own melting pot. Though, I did grow up with very humbled beginnings my mother and family celebrated my creativity. Which is very hard to do when you live in the hood and everyone has dreams to be a ball player or rapper. That didn’t fit me at all. I loved art, music, and fashion. So I really took a loving to some of my biggest inspirations Missy Elliott and Pharrell Williams. And how they expressed themselves in fashion , art and music. Then I seen they was from VA too! Omg! that sparked so much fire in me and made me feel like wow I can be something with the talents I have. At, that time I didn’t know what but I definitely knew I could do something with this. Never knowing that it would carry farther than I ever could imagine even still.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a published fashion stylist, creative director and MC’e. The hats I wear I have truly molded me as person in so many different ways. I’ve been pushing my goals and dreams for awhile. And I see myself getting a bit farther with ever push. I’m truly in the mist of learning that it’s all about divine timing. Literally as crazy as it may sound. It doesn’t happen on your time. It happens when it’s truly supposed too. Until then you can’t give up on the vision and goal. That’s the test to see if your ready or to get your ready for what’s to come. And if it’s not together or you haven’t been putting in the time to learn the lessons needed before the blessing comes. It will come and go and you may not be able to get it back a 2nd time around.

The process has not been easy at all. But, even when I look back I wouldn’t trade any of those hard times. It was all things o had to learn to apply to this current stage. The most important thing is to believe in your brand and what you have to offer. And, don’t be scared to take a leap on yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if you are a friend of mine you like to eat. So the trip will definitely be based around some major food stops. Of course you have to do WHATABURGER! But I keep a list on Yelp of places to try. Definitely doing Mike’s Chicken, Bistro B, Shady’s, & Sweet GA Brown’s. Always have to go to Fuel City and the drive thru daiquiri spot. I usually cook for my guest as well and host a kickback at my home. Love to take friend’s too concerts as well. And of course, we will do Sunday funday! What is Dallas without Sunday funday? Right!?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To God, my mother and grandmother both who have passed on. Thank you for not forgetting about me and my dreams. And just allowing me to be me. I hope that my brother and me are making you both proud.
