We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Osuorji and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I bought an embroidery machine to leisurely monogram clothes for my kids. Who doesn’t love a cute monogram? As a mom to three little ones, my life is chaos (in the best way) and embroidery was a fun, creative outlet. During the ice storm this year, my family and I were cooped up all week so I decided to pick up a cocktail napkin to test out some designs. While I intended to focus on clothing, I embroidered a new napkin every day, posted the finished products on social media, and by the end of the week, I had friends (and friends of friends) asking me to create custom sets for them. I knew then that this creative outlet had potential to grow into something more than a hobby. I’m still working on bringing the best balance to mommying, work, and this new venture – but it’s been a thrill to take the leap and go for it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art focuses on taking something simple and turning it into a unique piece that celebrates my clients and toasts to life. Whether that is a tshirt, cocktail napkin, or wall art, I want to create something that brings joy each time you see it. My embroidery designs are personalized for each individual and can range from fun and festive with bright colors to subtle and sweet with muted pastels. I see embroidery as art and I love creating and displaying pieces just like I would a painting or a photograph. I’m most excited about the possibilities ahead for growing both my embroidery collection and my small business as a whole. I am less than six months into this new venture, and I got here with a lot of grit and support. Adding HST into the balance of my professional career as a Speech Language Pathologist and being a mom has been very challenging but I am figuring it out with trial and error. I have learned to just keep swimming and don’t sweat the small details as they find ways to work themselves out. I want the world to view me as I am – a devoted mom, educated professional, a woman who likes her whiskey neat and also loves creating. HST is here to capture the sentimental moments, cheers the fun times, and bring communities and people together.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fort Worth is booming right now, there are new restaurants, bars and art installations opening all over the city. All of my friends who visit from out of state ALWAYS request tex-mex as their first stop. Throughout the week, we’d go to Joe T’s for the ambiance and margaritas, Uncle Julio’s for the familiarity, and Tinie’s or Don Artemio to spice things up. Favorite brunch spots are Winslows, and Branch & Bird which always guarantee a yummy plate paired with an even more delicious cocktail. Newer restaurants I have really enjoyed are 61 Osteria, Tre Mogli, and Quince. Can you tell I love food? Let’s also not forget about dessert – after grabbing drinks on South Main at Bearded Lady, Southside Cellar, Nickel City, or The Holly, we’d walk to Emporium Pies for a slice of pie. If my kid’s tagged along for the day, we would have to stop at Bluebonnet Bakery for the best cookies, and MELT for the creamiest ice cream. Aside from eating our way through the week, we’d check out the concerts at Dickie’s Arena and Tannahill’s Tavern, feed the giraffes at the Fort Worth Zoo, watch the cattle drive through the stockyards, and visit the museums. Cowtown is a really friendly and fun city that is continuing to grow – I’m excited to be a part of it!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and love from my family and friends who have encouraged me, laughed with me, challenged me, and been at my side through life. My husband, Obi, my three kiddos, and my parents deserve an extra shout out – they are my world!
