We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekah, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always had this love for photographing people but I believe it began when I was in middle school. I remember my friends and I would always have sleepovers and make a point to dress up and walk around the neighborhoods so we could take photos of each other. The photos are honestly quite embarrassing to look at now, though I think they overall sparked my interest in photography! As the years went on I was always trying to find people to model for me. My friends, family, my sweet nieces and nephews, I just wanted to take photos! I think as I got older it became more of a desire to hold onto memories in time. I was ALWAYS the friend taking photos, and even now I love to randomly send my friends photos from years prior simply to reminisce on old times. My grandma passed away a few years ago from dementia and I think my time with her in the years before she passed reminded me how easy it is for memories to fade with age, but especially when sick. This made me want more photos of myself, my family, and my son because I want to them to be a bridge of remembrance. I love when a memory I have forgotten about is reignited because of a photo I have saved. I think my artistic desire for photography is stemmed from a desire to help people have moments in time that they can look at forever. I want to be able to photograph moms with their kids, weddings for the couples, or just special moments in someones life. You always hear people say, “when you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life.” Photography is that for me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my photography career I am most excited about getting to work with fellow mothers. As a mom I love photos of my son, in fact I have quite literally thousands of them on my phone and he isn’t even two. I will never regret how many photos I have of him because though he has only been here for a short amount of time, I can look back and see how he has grown each month. I want to remember him in those early months for myself and be able to create those moments in time for other moms. My journey has not always been easy, but it has made me appreciate every little ounce of success that I have. I think one of the hardest things in this field is not comparing myself to other photographers I admire, and also finding confidence in my own work. I cannot expect my clients to be confident in my abilities, if I am doubting myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live west of Fort Worth and some of my favorite places to go eat would include breakfast at Howells Cafe, and Dinner at Tims barbecue and fish. I would also have to take them to both of my favorite locally owned coffee shops, Rise Coffee and POJO Coffee Shoppe. I would then take them to the downtown Fort Worth and spend time in the Stock Yards and of course stoping at the best Honkey Tonk out there, Billy Bob’s Texas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are my biggest inspiration in owning my own business. My parents together co-own a concrete company in Fort Worth that they created long before I was born. Growing up I learned a lot about what it meant to own your own business. The prayers, the hard work, and the ability to always remain teachable. My dad always taught me that the number one priority was to put God first. I have seen firsthand how that has affected his own company for the better. Even now my parents are always there to provide advice and prayers for me as a I grow in my own business. My biggest shoutout goes to my husband though. He has encouraged me throughout the entire process, and works so hard to provide for our family while I am starting my business. He is my biggest supporter. In addition to my parents and husband, my favorite shout out goes to my son who will always be my biggest motivator.
