Parenting is an incredibly important responsibility and so we wanted to get a conversation going with input from parents in the community. We asked them: what is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent? We’ve highlighted some of the responses below.

I think one of the most important things that I’ve done as a parent is that I set the tone that quitting is never an option for my children. I was a mom at the age of 15 and faced so many obstacles along the way, but I never quit! I may have failed at some things but I learned from them and kept pushing forward. As a parent, I believe the bond I form with my children is vital. It develops a sense of trust and helps me to guide them throughout this ever-changing world. The most important thing that I have done as a parent is speak words of affirmation over my children from the womb to the moment they entered my world. Affirming that their life has a purpose, affirming that they are loving, smart, strong, and resilient. I’ve always enjoyed doing hair. As a young girl, I was given the opportunity through my school to experience working in a Salon. It was from that experience that I believe I caught the bug for being a hairstylist. Although I went on in life to do and experience other things.
