Meet Octavio Aguayo | Photographer & Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavio Aguayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Octavio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never really thought too deeply about starting my own business, rather, I took different opportunities as they presented themselves at my previous jobs and found that my hobby aligned with many jobs out there. In addition to the opportunities, I did a lot of self-education when it came to the subject, what makes great photographers great, what helps with creativity, what helps them achieve the best results, etc. and upon seeing that I could also follow those examples, I little by little started offering my services and seeing how that went, kind of like testing the waters.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the different types of work I do, from portraits and graduations, quinceañeras and weddings, to different sporting events. And of course, no two shoots are identical, so that gives me the privilege of capturing unique moments every single time. Needless to say, the challenge with all of this has been having to learn how to adapt my shooting style according to the event, whether it’s a fast-paced sport like basketball or soccer, or a graduation shoot in which most poses are staged and we can get multiple attempts for each shot. The thing I’ve learned is that, regardless of the situation, patience is key. That, and that asking for help is not only okay, but often times necessary. I’m always open to learning new things to better serve my clients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a very laid-back person, so I don’t like to jam-pack my schedule with many activities but rather enjoy a few at a time. I love going to parks, especially those that might have a soccer field or even basketball hoops. If not, any open field will do for soccer. But I also enjoy taking walks in parks with different scenery, open fields, lots of trees, maybe even a river or lake. If I could, I’d probably go to the park every day. Trinity Park in Fort Worth is nice. Sundance Square in Downtown Fort Worth is also a great place to visit, enjoy some live music, and try some tasty food. I love Riscky’s Barbeque. The scenery there is also beautiful. I don’t know if I can say I’d go out every day, like I said, I’m very laid back so I’d probably just take it easy most of the time but those places are a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my amazing wife, Eibeth Aguayo. Before I started, she helped me practice my photography skills by not only modeling and giving important feedback and constructive criticism, but most importantly by simply supporting me in my goals and dreams. More than any book, YouTube video, or course, she’s helped me grow and continue on this path. I’d also love to thank those friends who supported me as I was starting out, for putting their trust in me and helping me gain experience as well.
