We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoe Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zoe, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Becoming a mother and an entrepreneur in the same year was exhilarating yet not always easy. Three years later, I’m still having to constantly work on priorities and balance. COVID, in a round about way, helped me come to this realization that less can be more. I was chasing every event, order, marketing deal and more without always seeing the return and finding myself exhausted and away from my family. I’ve really worked on being present and curating the projects I take on. Although my days can change, I’ve found making myself a schedule and priority list weekly helps me navigate where to focus and what to pass on.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Lulamade Biscotti started out of a love of baking and Greek heritage. We refer to biscotti as paximadia in Greek, and it’s been a part of my life for as long as I could remember. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family and being surrounded by so many Dallas go-getters helped fuel me to start the brand. Ultimately though, it was the birth of my daughter and seeking a way to spend time with her, create an income stream and truly find that creative piece of myself again. I figured we would be on a few friend’s doorsteps, but to see our products on retailer’s shelves across states just floors me. I’m very excited about working with more local brands, designers, and domestic packaging companies to grow our retail presence for years to come!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a hard question but oh so fun! We’re going to start off the day with the Juice Bar for our greens and a peek through Highland Park Village followed by a run on the Katy Trail. Lunch is at Kosta’s because it’s my favorite Greek food and the staff is the sweetest! We’re hitting up the Dallas Farmer’s Market and Eatzi’s to fill our fridge. Grabbing the cutest cups at Swoozies for our ranch waters and snagging our kids’ gifts from JoJoMommy and Small Pockets. A stroll through deep ellum to visit our FleaStyle friends and grab a mini from Amor y Queso is a must. Before the trip ends, hitting up Kesaku for sushi with a view and late night martinis at Drake’s to finish it off right.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off it’s my daughter – LulaMae! She carries so much wisdom even at a young age, and I want to show her that life is full of possibilities. My husband, immediate family, closest friends for constantly spreading the word, sending encouraging notes, coming to shows, helping package – it takes a village! I’ve been so blessed to also work and learn from so many local women owned brands who are always supporting one another. Brittany Cobb of FleaStyle believed in me early on, and I’m forever grateful for that!
