We had the good fortune of connecting with Zazel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zazel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My dream was to always become an entrepreneur. I despised clocking into and out of a 9-5 although I understood the importance of being a worker before becoming a boss.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It was always my dream to become a full-time YouTuber. At one point in life, I terminated the idea out of fear of misleading God’s people. As a young christian, I don’t always get it right. My fear was people watching my channel and thinking “if she does it, maybe I can do it too.” I also didn’t want to face the judgment of people thinking they know my entire life based on what I post. My fear was the least of God’s worries. He told me to start the channel and I obeyed. I thought about what I would want my channel to be about which was Beauty, Business, Vlogs and Faith. The Lord told me, “because you put faith last, that’s exactly where faith will fall into your channel”. I quickly rearranged my channel goals into Faith, Beauty, Business, and Vlogs which flowed more seamlessly to me anyway.
Born and raised in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands sets me apart because I have an accent which I authentically speak in on my channel. Vlogging when I go back home is one of my favorite content to create because I love to showcase my culture. Also, sharing my testimonies as a young Christian in a category on my channel titled Testimony Tuesday definitely sets me apart. I know of many people that don’t have the courage to boldly and unapologetically serve God in their twenties, much less share his goodness on a large platform like YouTube.
I always had a faith over fear mentality. Giving up was never an option for me. I always said to myself, “if I give up, what am I really going back to?”. I am most proud of not letting the many obstacles destroy my faith. Reminding myself of scriptures like 1 John 4:4, “Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.” which was life to my spirit. I’m excited about fulfilling the promises of God for my life; Inspiring many lives around the world.
The journey was never easy for me. In fact, everything in my life felt difficult to acquire. The growth of my channel was extremely slow; four years to be exact. I didn’t have the latest vlogging and editing equipment or software because I just couldn’t afford it. I had to trust God and the process. He told me he has me on a slow and steady path for a reason and I have everything I need!
I’ve learned that the closer you get to the promise of God for your life, you may lose some of the closest people around you. Your success becomes scary to them and they begin to secretly compete with you. Keep in mind that you should never covet according to Deuteronomy 5:21 and remember that what God will do for one, he will do for another because he is no respecter of person.
To truly know me, is to love me. My name literally means “an angel that invokes love.” It is very vital to me to spread love and kindness to people who never felt it. I want to be a true fisher of men to enlarge the kingdom of heaven through my platform and businesses.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up on 32 square mile island, you can imagine how limited my experiences were. Moving to one of the largest states in the U.S. made me feel like I was living the “American Dream”! When I have visitors in town, I love taking them to Kitchen and Kocktails in downtown Dallas where they can get creative cocktails & generous comfort-food dishes served in a popular, classy venue. Also, Grandscape is a brand-new, one-of-a-kind outdoor entertainment spot with dining and shopping experiences. My favorite part is the Ferris Wheel which grants an amazing view of North Texas from atop. Then taking myself and my company completely out of our comfort zones, I would take them to Fort Worth Stockyards where you get to see Fort Worth’s livestock up-close and personal along with authentic cowboys!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to my success story, God always gets the glory first and foremost. Without seeking understanding from him, I wouldn’t have truly known or tapped into my calling and purpose. I remember while working in a warehouse, I would listen to Dr. Myles Munroe. In this particular sermon, he spoke about a time in his childhood where he was seeking his purpose in life and no one could give him an answer including his parents. He said he turned to the Bible to find out what his calling was because that was the only place he would find answers. I then asked God in that very moment, “Lord what is my purpose?” and he responded and said “to inspire”. It was very subtle but I heard and felt it deeply in my spirit. Since then, the Lord told me to start my YouTube Channel and out of obedience, I did. Alongside, watching my father own his own business all my life has instilled much inspiration and allow me to witness true courage. My mother on the other hand was blessed with many vocational skills and has passed them down to my sisters and I whom operate as three peas in a pod. Without them or their genuine support, my journey might’ve felt much longer and harder. Last but not least, My Apostle Tina and her husband, Bishop Xavier Williams has cultivated my calling and pushed me to become the best version of myself.
