We had the good fortune of connecting with Zak and Noelle Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zak and Noelle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing a career in design was something I always had in my heart. I grew up wanting to live in New York City working in the fashion industry. My priority at that time was to get into a career that was all about me: creating a life I wanted, how would people know me, and how can I make it big?! Well, that dream never happened, and I am so thankful I didn’t get what I thought I wanted. Fast forward about 10 years from the realization that the fashion industry was not for me, my mom and I bought and completely renovated a 2,000 square foot home from the early 50’s. When we started the process of looking for a house, I thought, “let’s just redo a small powder bathroom and see if we can even do this.” Never in my life did I think we could renovate a whole house, let alone absolutely love the process. And never in my life did I imagine that my future husband would live down the street from that house! Eventually we met through friends at church and realized we lived so close to each other. We started dating and married one year and one day to the date we went on our first date.
We shared this dream to create a business that we could use our creative bent that is woven in us by God for His purposes: to make Him known and love people. We are in the beginning stages of taking spaces in people’s homes and creating environments that reflect the people who inhabit them. At Robinson & Co. Design, we believe that the home is a foreshadowing of heaven.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The world of interior design is pretty saturated in the DFW area. You have a plethora of designers you can go to, and we know that! One perspective that sets us a part from other companies is that we are not intimidated or feel a sense of competition with other designers. Another “motto” or purpose behind our design is that creating a beautiful space is easy. But making a space that is specific and represents the family or individual that lives there-now that is hard work and worthy work! Taking an image straight from Pinterest and re-creating that is too easy. We accept the challenge of taking the time to get to know our clients needs and wants.
The future of Robinson & Co. Design is something that brings so much excitement! We have dreams and hopes of being more than a design company. We desire to have multiple business under the Robinson & Co. umbrella-all with the purpose of being faithful stewards of what we believe we have been given. Fun fact, our logo is actually our house. We wanted something that would always remind us of where we began. One of those things we have been freely given and called to steward is our creativity. Not just for ourselves, but to serve others with our gifts and talents.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man! Only a long weekend in the metroplex!? We would start with a lavender latte and breakfast taco from Coffee Folk in Fort Worth. We are avid estate sale go-ers and garage sale attenders, so going to the neighborhoods near Westworth Village and TCU would be quintessential to our long weekend with friends. While looking for sales, we would “oo” and “ah” over the homes and get inspiration! You never know what you’ll find and who you’ll meet! A few of our favorite lunch spots are Lili’s Café, Press Café, Pan Asia, and Salsa Limon. We live near an entrance to the Trinity Trails and walking would be the perfect post lunch activity. Along the walk, we would dream up with we would do if we owned Kite Farms. The possibilities are endless, but we have a specific dream in mind 😉 If we were in Dallas, the place to get a drink or light snack would be Coupes. I am dying to try their tea on Sunday afternoons! If the weather was right, we would make dinner and hang in our backyard! We love hosting and having people over. To us, that makes a great weekend with friends!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our families and friends have been so supportive of this venture. They encourage us, teach us, guide us, and are our #1 cheerleaders! Some have supported us financially and given us opportunities that we would’ve of had without them.
