We had the good fortune of connecting with Yovanier Valentin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yovanier, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I can remember I enjoyed creating things. It didn’t matter what tools or techniques I used, it always gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment to finish something with my hands. Therefore at a young age, I always knew I would pursue a career in art because it was what I enjoyed the most, being able to provide a different perspective on life, whether it be beautiful, scary, or down right abstract is an added bonus.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I enjoy many forms of art, tattooing is my main focus, which is exciting and challenging all at once. What I find most exciting about the industry is all the different styles and techniques there is to learn. Not to mention that it is always evolving, there are lots of great talent out there pulling off some unbelievably amazing work! It is a very competitive industry which is challenging but also exciting. I believe setting your self apart form others goes a long way. I try to achieve that by treating my clientele with kindness, respect and honesty. I may not be the greatest in the area YET, but I am confident I provide a unique and welcoming atmosphere where people can relax and be at ease that they will be receiving a piece of art they will be proud of at a affordable price. Treating others the way you would like to be treated is something I have always tried lived by.
As far as where I am today professionally, I owe that to my eagerness to learn and grow. True growth comes from uncomfortable moments, that is when you really gain the skills you need to succeed and progress to the next level. I have learned that facing your fears is the best way to overcome challenges. You just have to be dedicated to your goals and consistent with your actions. It was not easy, but nothing you do for the first time ever is, usually if something is easy, it’s not worth it.
If I could let the world know anything, it would be that I am trying my best. Just like every tattoo I do, I will execute it to the best of my ability. I treat every appointment with the same care and enthusiasm as the last.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well hands down, the best place to be on a Monday night would be Whiskey Garden in Fort Worth for the turtle races! Yes, you read that right. Tuesday I would probably take my friend to the multiple museums we have here in town, for example Amon Carter Museum and the Kim Art Museum just to name a few. Wednesday we are definitely going to Buffalo Bros for their specials on delicious wings and cold drinks. On Thursday we would hit up CiderCade for some retro gaming and cider, later that night you could find us walking up and down Magnolia St. Friday we may need a day to relax so I would take my friend to King Spa to relax in the multiple saunas and jacuzzies. later in the evening have a nice chill night accompanied but some live music and tasty drinks at Pinky’s jazz lounge. Saturday we are spending the day at Khaotic Zen tattoo studio for some costume matching ink as a memento of the great experiences we had on this visit. Sunday we are closing out the week with a little bit of off roading on some local trails.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My loving family, my eccentric art teachers and everyone who has supported and believed in me over the years. Can’t forget the naysayers they fuel the fire too.
