We had the good fortune of connecting with Yesenia Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yesenia, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I recently read the book, Untamed by Glennon Doyle, that changed my mindset on how I try to live my life. There was one specific phrase that stood out so clearly and it was…”We can do hard things.” I have been trying to live out this concept/principle since I read it. As entrepreneurs and business owners, we are constantly faced with “hard things”. It is how you approach these hard things that I feel makes a difference between your success and happiness in life and your disappointments and failures. Life isn’t easy and there will always be storms we must get through but it’s the mindset of just that; we can do hard things, that will get you through it. In the end we become stronger people, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a hair and makeup artist, makeup artist first and hairstylist second, I say this because makeup has always been a passion of mine since I was young. I love that makeup can enhance our beauty or completely transform us. One of the main reasons I started doing makeup was because I loved how much confidence it gave women and how they held their head up just a little higher because the felt beautiful. A key quote for me is Confidence is Beauty. When women feel confident, they can take on the world. As far as hair goes, I’ve always had a knack for it but it was not one of my focuses until I started working with Alex. She saw the natural talent and threw me in. The beauty industry can be very intimidating and difficult to break into, however, I believe there is room for all of us to be successful as individual artist. The key is to just go out into the world ad be yourself, some will love you and others won’t but that’s one of the challenges with being an entrepreneur but we can do hard things! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am lucky enough to have such an amazing support system around me who all deserve shoutouts. My friends and family who encourage me everyday to strive to do better and work harder even when I don’t want to. A HUGE, HUGE thank you to Alex Angel (MsPaintedLady) who’s team I joined about two years ago. She has made such a tremendous impact on my career and life. The MsPaintedLady team is like no other. We are all strong women who work hard and root for each other in all our endeavors and I strongly believe it is because we have such an amazing and strong mentor in Alex. She has taught me so much more than even I thought I could learn and has helped me really become the artist I am today.
