We had the good fortune of connecting with Yara Mohammed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yara, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by a multitude of culture, historical events, time periods and eras. I take inspiration from paintings, and various other art forms. I pull from structural elements of architecture for composition and look to color stories and blend it with whimsicality, elegance and myth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the beginning, I knew I wanted to do Fashion Photography- it was a matter of how. Starting so young, teaching myself different techniques and how to properly use a camera- that was the easy part. Developing my style, learning what I liked to shoot and what I didn’t- that came after. After two years Id Established myself as a Branding and Fashion Photographer working with amazing creatives, teams and individuals. I am most proud of my publications and of the campaigns Ive shot. Its a representation of my work and style- what I love to do. Most describe my work as elegant, ethereal and classy- but even now shooting for five years- I sometimes feel imposter syndrome. As most creatives do at one point in their lives- the feeling of not being good enough came strong- But pushing myself to create beautiful and enchanting images, with feeling and emotion- Reminds me that the journey is what makes it all worth it. I Want my images to speak to you, to transport you, to make you feel like theres a story behind it, while also being bold and classically experimental. With different textures, colors and fabrics- constantly trying new things- that is what Yaraphotography is made of.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Travel is my Jam! First we would definitely drive to carrolton for some crepes and coffee. Museum Hop starting at the DMA, and wander the halls, and admiring the pieces- making sure not to miss the Crow and the Sculpture Garden. Then walk over to Klyde warren and wander the urban-scape, refueling with a food truck tacos. Make our way to Deep Ellum, wander in and out of the little shops and take a couple pics in front of some amazing murals. Pop into some Gallerys, check out the plant shops, artisans shops and grab some vegan food at Ebb and flow. Drive up to Highland park village for some window shopping, and coffee, grab some italian, then Drive up to Knox and uptown for some serious vintage shopping. Make our way to Greenville and desert hop- specifically gelato, and end the day with bobaShoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely think my Dear Cousin, Z Photography otherwise known as Zaiba Fatima, is definitely a big part of my journey to the present. She was the one who introduced me to the creative world of photography. It started with fascination , as I watched her toy and play with different photographic techniques, assisted her in creative shoots, and watched her process from a young age. She will forever be one of the most talented individuals in my life, and I owe it to her for connecting me with my creative side. She is an inspiration.
