We had the good fortune of connecting with Wesley Szabo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wesley, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Even at a young age, I’ve always cared about my appearance. My hair had to be perfect, clothes had to color coordinate, my shirt had to be tucked in just right, and my shoes, they had to be clean. I was born in Glendale, California, to an Italian mother and a Croatian father. My last name “SZABO” is a Hungarian surname meaning “Tailor”. Deep down I’m sure this plays a part in my love for menswear and tailored clothing. After all, the Croatians did invent the necktie, and we already know how the Italians are with style. I watched my Italian grandfather, “Nonno” in Italian, put on a suit layered with a cardigan, horsebit loafers, and a fedora hat just to walk to the grocery store everyday, a mile each way. You never know who you will run into I guess.

I’ve always been the one that my friends came to when they needed to put an outfit together for a certain event or they just wanted to up their clothing game. I love the process in guiding them. The older I’ve become, the more I realized my passion for menswear and the history behind the “Sartorial” world. There’s nothing like taking the time to put on these beautiful garments and feel my confidence build with each piece while appreciating the hard work that so many have put into creating it.

I believe it’s not just about tailored clothing, it’s about a tailored life. My mission is to create beautifully tailored menswear that will enhance men’s confidence and help them achieve greatness in their daily life. And present their best selves to the world. – Wesley Szabo

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SZABO, is an Italian custom menswear brand with a focus on slow luxury that prioritizes craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless design over mass production and fleeting trends. Sourcing top quality fabrics from Italian and English mills to bring you suits, sport coats, blazers, trousers, shirts, knitwear, ties, and accessories. Always showing appreciation to the artisans for their hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication.

What sets me apart is that I control every aspect of the process—I’m a traveling tailor and one-man show. Visiting my clients in their home, office or place of convenience adds a unique value to the experience. I’m not looking to scale into a corporate brand; instead, I focus on crafting a personal, hands-on experience for each client. Every appointment and fitting is done by me because I believe in building a unique relationship and delivering a tailored experience that reflects my vision and dedication to the craft.

Of course, there are challenges with starting a new business. Most people gravitate toward well-known, commercialized brands, and it takes a level of trust to help them understand that I offer the same quality—if not better—for their investment. But what I’ve learned over the past year of building SZABO is that when you genuinely care about solving their problems and truly believe in the product you provide, perspectives shift. With time and the right approach, they come to appreciate the craftsmanship, personalization, and value that sets my work apart.

With my brand, SZABO, I want people to not only appreciate nature for providing us with the finest raw materials we can source but also recognize the hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship of the skilled artisans who bring them to life. My mission is to create beautifully tailored menswear that enhances men’s confidence, empowers them to achieve greatness in their daily lives, and helps them present their best selves to the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a tough one. There are so many great places in and around Dallas. I tend to lean mostly to the lounge and hotel bar scene. Hotel Swexan would be on the list, a nice steak dinner at Stilwell’s and then head down to Babou’s which is located there too. And of course, we’d have to get some Texas BBQ, Hutchins would be the spot for that. I recommend the sliced brisket and Texas Twinkies. Drake’s Hollywood has a classy ambiance to have dinner and enjoy a night of conversation and cocktails. And, hanging out at Knox street during the day grabbing some coffee and lunch at Pizzana for some Neapolitan pizza. It’s also an area you can easily transition into making a night of it. Not only because I’m Croatian but at some point take a walk around the Adriatica Village and grab a bite there too. So, mostly everything that has to do with food. It’s must be the European in me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give credit to my family—they’ve always supported my creative endeavors. They recognize my passion and skill for creating something truly special, embracing my unique approach in everything I pursue. I wouldn’t be able to chase my dreams without them.
