We had the good fortune of connecting with Vipin Singh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vipin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From my schooldays I was fascinated with being independent and hated the regular job system. As I entered college I was very motivated towards photography and film-making. I was bored with engineering studies was confident in making a career in media industry, so I dropped out and started my photography studio back in 2012. Now I’m more into film making, video editing and color grading.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m currently doing video post-production services i.e. video-editing and color-grading. I also work as cinematographer working on different projects such as music videos, documentaries, corporate & short-fiction films. It was difficult in starting to adjust as in providing professional services, one need to satisfy their clients and give a touch of personal style in the work. But eventually over the time, I’m able to have repeat clients with whom I have a good understanding. My style of editing is a mix of old school style with the hyper edit styles of current market.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a street photographer I explore my city quiet enough. I’m Delhi based so my first choice will be narrow lanes of old Delhi and it is also famous for its food. If it’s winter than a visit to Yamuna Bazar and see hundreds of seagulls flying around the ghat and have a boat ride. Lodhi garden is beautiful and full of some historical monuments of Delhi. I’m more into street food so there are various joints and stalls to visit. I also like the Tibetan food we get in Majnu ka Tilla(Tibetan refugee colony) in north Delhi. Its good place to photograph also.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes lot of people in journey helped me in learning the process. Before starting my studio I had class with Arun Anand, who was a master product photographer in his time. For street photography I did lot of photowalks with Himanshu Thakur, who is also Delhi based photographer. Latest, I was lucky enough to get selected in Khoj programme and get some mentorship from magnum photographer Sohrab Hura.
