We had the good fortune of connecting with Violeta Ortega and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Violeta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As the investment principle goes “The higher the risk, the higher the reward”, when talking about money taking risks may be daunting, now imagine taking this to the next level: your career, now your whole career and everything you’ve worked for is on the line; THAT is terrifying. And yet we all do it in hopes to achieve that ‘higher reward’.

I firmly believe that taking risks and working hard is the way to grow, and that is what I have been doing since I was young, I moved to a different country, with a different language, leaving everything I knew behind, I switched careers from international business; a field that I had invested my whole life in, to an industry I knew nothing about: acting. All in pursuit of my ‘higher reward’ which in my case is: performing art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Acting is challenging to say the least, it’s not just about talent, it is about persistence, discipline, confidence; it is having to miss out on family reunions or drinks with friends, because you have to work on your craft, to memorize lines, auditions or, if you are lucky, overnight shoots. Acting is the constant cycle of work, rejection and fear of not knowing if all this is worth it, and yet, you keep working, because this is your dream and nothing beats the feeling of being ‘on set’; this utopian place where everything can become true; suddenly you’re sharing the screen with Jamie Foxx, meeting Robert Rodriguez, Luke Wilson or Martin Sheen; people you admire and have seen on screen your whole life.
Getting a new script gives me a rush of adrenaline that I cannot explain. Developing a character, imagining all the fun ways you can work on it and how you are gonna share with the world your own vision of the ‘life’ you just created based on words on a piece of paper.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Every time someone comes to town I take them to the Dallas World Aquarium, and the Reunion Tower, those are a must! Food! Legacy West is beautiful to shop and dine. Deep Ellum for a fun night out and the AT&T stadium to check out the big screen.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everything I am I owe it to my family, their unconditional support is what has gotten me through thick and thin. My acting family which deserves its own shoutout, I’m forever grateful for your constant words of encouragement while I was starting in this industry.
