Meet Vini Lafayett | business owner and Video Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vini Lafayett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vini, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At first, my thought process went to make more money, at the time, I was living in Brazil and we saw an opportunity of making more money without abandoning our 9-5pm job, until we figure it out that we wanted more than just make money out of it.

What should our readers know about your business?
VMedia was born from a vision, yes we are in the media business but we want to be known for our unique service. I’ve been working with video for more than 15 years now, but since always Ive know myself as a servant, servant of Jesus, servant of the church, servant of my parents, servant of others, that mindset help me to see people for their need and provide a unique solution for each of them, I know that is better business owners out there, better videographers, but my mission is to be better at serving my clients, that puts me in a position where I will always fight for the client, and I think I business should always think for the best of the client. Growing up in Brazil I would say that since young you learn how to be entrepreneur, as Young as I remember myself I thought of having something that I could call “Mine” , as my first work I started working for a bank and Brazil when I was 18, saw an opportunity of having something mine and quit the bank job, that was my first fail, it’s just easier to recover from a failure when you are young, so I suggest you trying as young as you can, and if you didn’t’ start 10 years ago, start today, it will be easier than 10 years from now. After my first bankruptcy around my 19-22 I recovered, came back stronger with more experience, started work for a wedding venue in Santos, Brazil, and after one year of good work, a lot of managing skills learning, I quit the job to start my second attempt of having what’s “mine”. Opened a Nextel store(yes the radios were in hype back in Brazil). 1 year later I was leaving this dream behind to move to another state, this time I did break even, but came out with a lot of experience. 2 years later me and my brother would start our “mine” called Storia Filmes, a wedding business that, as of today, is among the best business videos in Rio de Janeiro. My “mine” just started after I quit Storia, moved to USA with only 32 dollars in my pocket, not knowing anyone, not knowing any English or Spanish, but I knew what was mine, and I wanted so bad that I never gave up, in 2023 me and my wife started VMedia, Since then we have served clients across the USA and we are aiming for the best year so far for this 2025

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my family lives in Brazil, when they come to visit me I always make some food at home, a barbecue(picanha is the best cut), take them to Waco to see the magnolia, Frisco to see the stars, maybe to a Dallas Mavs game or a baseball game, but local business are a must as well, coffee shops around us, little restaurants with live Jazz and good dessert.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful to all those who doubted me, said being a business owner wasn’t for me, or thought I’d just be another videographer. Your “loving” comments and “well-intentioned” advice fueled me through every tough day and setback.
We often thank family and friends, but the truth is, they might not always support your path, and that’s okay! Use it as fuel. It doesn’t mean they don’t care; they just have a different vision for you. I don’t want to fit into someone else’s shoes—my size 10.5 fits me perfectly.
Of course, I’m not self-made. My parents poured love into me, my brother pushed me to be stronger, my wife and kids help me to be more resilient, and older friends invested time to teach me math when I was only 12. They all contributed to who I am today, helping me strive to become my best version. I’m not there yet, but I’m on my way
