We had the good fortune of connecting with Vicky J. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vicky, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is my middle name lol. I have been an artist/crafter for as long as I can remember and I’d say risk plays a big part in my journey. It’s about stepping out of my comfort zone, trying new things and learning along the way. It’s scary but exciting! I do believe taking calculated risks can lead to great rewards. It’s all about balance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my opinion, what sets me apart from others is my can do attitude. If I see something I like, I challenge myself. I think to myself, hmmm I can make that lol! Which honestly is how I actually became an artist. I remember when the Chris Brown graffiti album came out and he had the fold over pictures. I was sitting at the house with my uncle I remember me saying I can draw this and him saying I don’t believe it. Well that day, I made a believer out of him lol. But just like then, and now I have always believed in myself.

But I can’t take full credit. Each and every single turn on this creative journey, has to be accredited to God. I literally would not be where I am today if it had not been for me trusting in the lord. It’s funny to see how I’ve grown so much and became the artist that I am today. I have always been crafty but I never saw me doing anything outside of being a home crafter. I believe in 2018 I had my first vendor event.

Before then I was just doing things here and there for my family. They would always say good things about my work but they are your family, they are supposed to hype you up lol. At my first event, I had some t-shirts from my brand Karma Productions as well as some prints of my artwork. That particular day, I sold out! And it got me thinking, should I try this again? So I did.

At first I only did local events. Then I started doing larger events in different cities and states and started realizing there was a whole community of people who shared my interests. God has been opening creative doors for me ever since and I love it! With the trust in him, success has been very easy.

What I want people to know about my brand and story is this, my brand name is Karma Productions. The name Karma was given to me by the lord because I feel like no matter what you do in life, whether it be cooking, creating, or just being a great person, it all comes back to you. For me being a creator, I try to put positivity and creativeness out because I never know who’s watching. There maybe a young girl interested in art but maybe scared because others aren’t as creative or passionate and I always want to put good out so people can stand strong in their craft!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question. My bf visited me a few months back for our birthday and we had a blast! I’m a small town girl from Mississippi so anything we do in Dallas is considered to be the time of our lives lol.

Since it was our birthdays we planned the whole week out. The first night out we went to a winery not too far out from Dallas. They had a live band and the scenery was just amazing! The next day we went on a hike followed by a day at the farmers market.

While at the farmers market, we checked out this black owned winery by the name of Berkshire Farms Winery. I’ve never had wine that flavorful before. Since it was still in season, we also got a lot of green tomatoes. So yummy!

We visited a couple bars as well, my favorite was the wonder bar! They have so many cool rooms and places to take photos. If you haven’t been I suggest you try it!

We also went to a couple of more places and restaurants but for our birthday we had breakfast at the XOXO lounge and png I can not wait to go back! Their breakfast is to die for! I definitely recommend, 10/10!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll dedicate this to my family! No matter what route to take in life they have always been supportive 💕
