We had the good fortune of connecting with Vic Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vic, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My initial thought process was mainly just pursuing my creative urges and helping my friends through videography & photography. With a growing family and an increase in my skill set, that pursuit led me towards more monetary based efforts and projects.
Basically I thought to myself, “Hey I think I’m kinda good at this, perhaps people would pay me for this kind of work”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets my particular style of video/photography apart is the way in which I tell stories with my art. At least that’s what I strive to do with it. Whether I’m filming a wedding or a really intense basketball game, I try to tell a story in the shots I use and the music I use in the background. The same is true when it comes to my photography as well. I want people to look at the pictures I take and have it transport them to that place. To that moment. To that memory. In their mind.
It definitely was not easy getting to the place I am professionally, and even now it feel as if I’m still not as good as I could be sometimes. However, there is always a drive within to be better. Technology and techniques are always evolving and I strive to keep up.
I am completely self-taught in the video & photo realm. I spent many many nights attending “Youtube University” lol. Lots of trial and error and experimenting. In the beginning it was tough getting a handle on producing consistent quality content. I sometimes go back and look at my old work and just cringe. Thank goodness for growth! lol However, as with most things.. practice and perseverance can lead to improvement. That’s what happened with me. Just kept working and striving to perfect my craft and eventually reached a good place professionally.
I want the world to know that myself and my brand is about telling genuine stories and capturing lasting memories. I pride myself on producing quality content that you can come back to watch/view over and over and over.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denton is a semi-small college town, but there is still plenty to do. A week trip would definitely have to include catching a game at UNT. Grabbing a bite to eat on Denton Square at Graffiti Pasta or Barley & Board. Ice cream desert at Beth Marie’s. Playing some games at Andy’s B or going old school with arcade games at Free Play.
Denton is surprisingly a melting pot of culture. Dope Thai food, Cajun restaurant cuisines, pickup basketball games and bingo nights. You name it and Denton has a little bit of it somewhere in the City.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A personal shoutout to My College Pastor & First Lady, Elton and Matika Monday. During my college years they purchased for me my 1st ever professional video editing software. Final Cut Pro. That type of software was way too expensive for me at the time, and they did it out of the kindness of their heart to get me started.
Another personal shoutout to my wife TaShawnda, who purchased my first professional camera for me. A lot of my early content was produced with it. She really got the ball rolling and I’m forever grateful for that.
