We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Urquhart Baxley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So the decision to start my healing practice came from my own journey with healing. In the past five years I had to come to terms with how I was treating myself and others around me. This lead me to reach out for help by a trusted life coach friend. She helped me to realize that loving myself needed to be a priority and that forgiveness is a big part of that process. From there I knew I wanted to help others reach their own emotional integrity, find balance and live authentically. That’s where Cardinal Soul Healings began – with that vision and honoring the memory of my granny.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For my day-to-day profession I work in the medical billing field. I have been doing this line of work since about 2014. I started out on the collections side of things with a medical billing firm where I learned many of the intricacies of the business. I progressed from there to working the insurance side and claims management. These days I have the privilege of working in a local cardiologist office in Sherman, TX and enjoy helping the patients gain a better understand of not only medical billing but also insurance companies. Doing this line of work excites my detail oriented brain; as my mind processes numbers and codes a little bit differently. I tend to see patterns more easily and can spot issues and trends to correct before it becomes a huge billing mess.
I believe this also plays into my healing practice where I use active listening with a client to provide a different perspective for whatever situation they are facing. This gives them the opportunity see with love versus fear; and that can build their confidence to face that situation with a more positive outcome.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if my best friend was visiting for a week I would plan a lunch date at Harvest Kitchen in McKinney and then stop by Nothing Bundt Cakes for some dessert followed by some gaming fun at Cidercade Dallas! Would definitely plan a trip to the Dallas Art Museum and then the Fort Worth Zoo! Also have to take a day and check out the Video Game Museum in Frisco! For food/drink places to hit up would be Killa Pies in Prosper and then closer to my home in the TEXOMA area would be La Placita, Lettuce Indulge/CJ’s Coffee, Finish Line Pizza, Peak Nutrition and The Usual Cantina. Also in the TEXOMA area we would spend some time at Lake Texoma or even Eisenhower State Park and drive around Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. Also have to take a day to walk around Downtown Denison to check out all the shops and antique stores – definitely stop at Totally Addicted Co. and Stones of the Heart! As you can see I enjoy nature, art and supporting local small business! That’s where it’s at!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, my encouragement and support mainly comes from my husband, Hugh. He has been my biggest cheerleader and always challenges me to not give up. He makes sure I take time out for myself before saying yes to the world. Another person I want to shout out is my healing coach and amazing friend, Tobie, that helped me get jumpstarted on my own healing journey. She has no idea the magic, power and beauty she has challenged me to see within myself.
Lastly, I want to dedicate this to my granny, Kathryn, that passed away a few years ago. As a child she was a light for me when I need someone to talk to. I enjoyed spending time at her home, in her veggie and flower gardens. She is my cardinal!
