Meet Vernesha Ruffin | Podcast Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vernesha Ruffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vernesha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Absolutely every decision we make is a risk. “Playing it safe” is a risk. “Following your dreams” is a risk. It’s all about making the choice of which risk you want to take. If I would not have taken the risk of picking up my phone and recording my first podcast episode because of fear, I’d still be trying to find my purpose. Taking the right risks has completely changed the entire trajectory of my life. It has changed how I view myself, how attainable the “unattainable” actually is, and taking it up a notch in my career without fear.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I had the clearest dream one night that I was waving to a large crowd of women. I could hear the “I love you’s” coming from the crowd. I felt so overwhelmed with love and support. That’s when I knew I wanted to start my podcast. It felt so easy to pick up my phone and press record. It was so natural. The most challenging part for me was pushing through my depression. I started my podcast at one of the lowest points in my life. One of the only things that brought me peace was speaking to my listeners every week. How I over came was just to keep going. The persistence and the determination is what brought me out of a dark place and take my craft seriously. I’ve learned that your path doesn’t have to look perfect. It’s all about choosing to show up for yourself. I used to feel so sorry for myself until I realized the only person that can get me out of that dark place was myself. I want the world to know that my brand is a safe space for creators, entrepreneurs, 9-5 workers, small business owners etc. to share their story to touch others lives. My platform isn’t for me, it’s for my guests and my listeners to gain something meaningful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my friend to Monarch Dallas to enjoy dinner and sit on the deck with a glass of wine to enjoy the Dallas Skyline view. The next day, we’d go to Kitchen and Kocktail in downtown Dallas for brunch and good vibes. After brunch would be the great time to head to North Park Mall for some shopping. Maybe one day we could go for a morning walk at White Rock Lake and have some girl talk. We’d get dressed up for the night for St. Martin’s for a nice French inspired dinner and wine. We can head to Hyde and Seek in Downtown to do some Karaoke and have drinks. I have to take my friend to Park Lane for some shopping at Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, and Saks 5th. Before my friend leaves to head back home, I’d have to take her to the Dallas Zoo then Joeys at North Park Mall for lunch. Joeys has delicious sushi rolls and complimentary wine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandmother and my mother. They both took risks by starting their businesses and being a representation of what following your dreams despite uncertainty looks like. My grandmother is a retired cosmetology school owner and my mother is a retired daycare owner.
