We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Lozano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valerie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If you try something, you risk failure. If you don’t, you ensure it. I would much rather try than live with the “what if” in my head. I say go for it! I have taken many risks in my life, especially in my career. I remember when I was first planning to leave my full time job when I started my consulting business. I had a plan but still there was so much uncertainty of how I was going to bring in a salary being that I was just starting out. If you want it bad enough, you will figure it out and that’s what I did.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sunnylish is my online store featuring unique brands of Women’s Apparel & Accessories. The name Sunnylish was inspired by my son, Sonny and my love for unique style. We offer trendy unique designs that allow you to express yourself freely. Since I can remember, I was always into fashion. I started my career in Apparel after I graduated The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I detoured to the Beauty industry for many years, and things really came full circle for me when I launched Sunnylish. In addition to my online store, I am also a reseller of secondhand clothing. I sell on sites like Poshmark, EBAY, and soon to be WHATNOT. Sunnylish offers consignment services for clients in the Las Vegas, NV area. We accept new and gently used women’s clothing and accessories. I am very excited to announce that we will soon be expanding our assortment with secondhand sustainable clothing. A lesson I have learned is you have to love what you do. If you want to do something only for the money, then that’s not the right job/business for you. You must be willing to learn, to fail, to some days be a beginner, and most importantly believe in yourself and really see your vision. My persistence and resilience have been two traits that have helped me through tremendously!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Las Vegas, I would take her sightseeing off the strip! I would start by taking her to my fave coffee shop called Gabi. It is the most adorable cafe with delicious coffee and pastries. It is a blend of oriental culture and modern western culture. It is a coffee house / speakeasy, you don’t know what is behind the big wooden door from the outside. After, I would take her on the scenic drive through Red Rock Canyon to see the beautiful mountains. There is a spot I love to go for walks at called Calico Basin. Most of my friends visiting Vegas for sure want to gamble so I would take her to Red Rock Casino which is a really nice off strip local casino. After we win some money, I would take her to an outdoor shopping mall called Downtown Summerlin. For a night cap, The Golden Tiki or keep it old Vegas with the Peppermill.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom. Since I first started my entrepreneurial journey, she has always supported me and has been my biggest cheerleader. She has been there to listen to my highs and lows, and has never tried to steer me in any other direction. Growing up, I had many jobs! I like to try new things and keep my creativity flowing. This continued on in my professional career as well. If I had a full-time Corporate job, chances are I was representing brands on the side. My family and close friends all know this about me, and still to this day will get a kick out of all the different things I do. When you have support and encouragement, it makes the journey so much more rewarding! I love you, Mom!
