We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie and Sarah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valerie and Sarah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We both enjoy listening to podcasts while doing various activities/tasks, etc. As our friendship grew over the years, we started discussing various topics such as conspiracy theories, true crime, mystery, and so much more. We felt that we should share our thoughts and views with the world. One topic in particular was stories pertaining to radioactive material and disasters. Valerie had mentioned the story of the original Radium Girls which I (Sarah) had not heard of before and it inspired both of us to bring awareness to history and events that could have been prevented. This led us to name our podcast after the story that had us talking.

And that’s how we became The Radium Girls Podcast.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re a unique podcast duo, as we have incorporated youtube into our podcast to bring visualization into the experience. We have a Halloween episode where we’re dressed up as characters, and bring yearly Halloween specials. Sarah has done face paintings while Valerie delivers the stories. We’ve had episodes where we’re just “free-flowing” on different topics, giving variety within one episode. Unlike other podcasts, our channel features many different topics from as simple as what’s going on in the world right now, to as broad as conspiracy, true crime, history, unsolved mysteries, and Sarah’s personal favorite – Aliens! We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come from our audio upgrades to how much knowledge we’ve acquired. We’re excited to continue this journey and to bring many stories to light that may have been forgotten, or are not well known. We’re still at the beginning of our journey, but we’ve spent many hours researching, discussing off camera, and diving deep to bring the most up to date and accurate information. It’s not been an easy road, as we’ve had to postpone many recording sessions due to life events on top of working 40+ hour work weeks at our full time “day” job. We continue to push through our hardships and meet as often as we can to continue doing what we love.

The Radium Girls Podcast is a podcast that has a story for everyone as we cover topics on many things. We are constantly researching hot topics, and taking listeners suggestions to bring the most relevant content that the listeners want to hear, as well as content we find most interesting. We’re just two best friends with different point of views, collaborating to open each others minds to different thought processes, and sharing those with the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we’d go to Streets Fine Chicken for the best brunch around. Afterwards, we’d take a stroll through the Texas Discovery Gardens to view the butterfly habitat, then go to the Children’s Aquarium (because we’re kids at heart) to pet some real-life sting rays. We’d spread our time throughout the week going to various places like Dave and Busters, Six Flags, The Perot Museum (this place is AMAZING), various other museums and Art Exhibits. Top Golf, comedy shows, and any live music events are a must! For food, we’d be going to the Cheesecake Factory, Medieval Times, Reunion Tower, and then we’d search for hole-in-the wall mom and pop places to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to dedicate this to our family and friends who have had our backs, and showed nothing but love and support throughout our entire journey. We’re just getting started. To our mom’s, thank you for believing in us, and constantly showing your support every day. To our close friends, we cherish you, and thank you for putting up with us bouncing ideas off of you. To our listeners thank you for continuing to listen to us, and submitting stories you would like for us to cover. To Vincent, thank you for putting up with my brainstorming, and allowing me to throw ideas at you. To our audio engineer Jamie, thank you so much for taking our voices to the next level for a better experience for our listeners. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in creating our episodes, whether you called in to be a part of the discussion, or you helped capture the best shots.
