We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler & Deeva Barthelemy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler & Deeva, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Tyler: In 2005, every pictured memory I ever had was washed away when Hurricane Katrina hit. I didn’t realize how significant those photographs were to my legacy until I no longer had access to them. And now as a father, I knew I wanted to leave behind memories that my children and even my grandchildren would be able to cherish long after I am gone.

I love the entire process of capturing precious moments, from deciding which lens to utilize to determining the backgrounds aesthetic. But the passion that I have thrives from the fact that with today’s technology, as a photographer I am able to provide both digital photos and prints to my customers to ensure safe keeping and long-term memories.

I flourish most because I provide a service for families and individuals that genuinely bring them happiness, and it’s a pure blessing to be able to witness that type of joy.

DeeVa: I noticed Tyler’s interest in photography grow throughout the years. He would constantly research the latest phones by filtering through the camera settings. He would snap photos of our family and scenic views that were simply astonishing. It was no surprise to me when he brought the mentioned the idea of pursuing photography, he was clearly a natural. My role in this business is to be as helpful as possible, I believe that when you love what you do you never work a day in your life. And quite frankly that’s a vision I can stand behind.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Tyler: There are a lot of people with artistic cravings that have the privilege of attending college and receiving a Bachelor of Arts or in Science Photography. However, as for myself there were no mentors to gain knowledge from and due to the lack of affordability school was not an option either. Once I brought the idea of changing careers and pursuing photography to my wife, her enthusiasm behind the proposal was all the motivation needed to start. Though it was far from easy, I knew that with her support I could accomplish anything I set my mind too. So, from there I purchased my very first camera, a Canon M50. The epidemy of a beginner’s lens.

After that I utilized YouTube for ways to study images, ascertain angles to perfect photos, and detect cameras that would be best within my personal budget. My wife took on the role as editor. She also researched various digital avenues such as photoshop and became fascinated with all that editing entails. Her eagerness to provide the best quality photo to our clients has cultivated the most perfect partner on this endeavor.

There are a few lessons we’ve learned along the way. One is that there is always room for improvement, and always opportunities to learn and grow. So even as you prosper remain humble and remain grateful and God will always provide a way. Second, if you’re passionate about something just START! You’ll never know what could have been if you don’t try. Lastly, don’t be discouraged by failure, it is a natural part of the journey to success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Many would be surprised about how much Dallas has to offer. When visiting, the Reunion Tower-Downtown has amazing views of Dallas Skyline. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is beautiful and offers a great natural setting for photos. The Dallas Museum of Art, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas World Aquarium and Klyde Warren Park are all great for the entire family.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Tyler: I’d like to give a special thanks to my lovely wife DeeVa, my beautiful children, my supportive mother-in-law, Saskia, and everyone else who has contributed to my family and King and Queen Unlimited Studios success. Thank you!
