We had the good fortune of connecting with Tritima Achigbu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tritima, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance has always been tricky for me as I’ve always pursued multiple endeavors simultaneously— in college, I balanced being a full-time student and having part-time work. Now, I balance full-time work and multiple creative projects. I’ve found two things to be most helpful: first, accepting that work-life balance is sort of a myth. It’s almost impossible that all areas of life will be 100% all the time. The second is paying for convenience where I can to increase efficiency — I invest in a virtual assistant and I use AI/automation where possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
40 hours a week, I work as an asset and wealth management analyst at an investment banking firm. More specifically, I help clients achieve their short and long term financial goals.

On the creative end, I do a lot of work in social media, content production and I write as well. I’m also building a technology startup with a team of 5 others. Each project I embark on has to answer two questions: Does this impact a group of people significantly? Is this going to drive meaningful conversations?

I think my biggest struggle has been deciding if I should pick a niche and stick to it — if doing so makes me more marketable. However, being that I’m young, I think deciding on one thing I’d like to do for the rest of my life is too much of an overwhelming decision. Each of my endeavors serves me in one way or the other and as long as I am passionate about what I do and not overextending myself, I am happy to go through this exploratory phase.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question!

For great food
• Taco City Y Mas — you HAVE to try the Birria tacos
• 18th and Vine — the best barbecue, truly
• Aso Rock Market — if you’re a fan of Nigerian cuisine, the food here is *chef’s kiss*
• The Freeman Lounge — southern food and live soul music make for a relaxing evening

For great buys
• Buffalo Exchange — a thrift store with a Y2K aesthetic. I find cool pieces each time I visit
• Furniture Buy Consignment — for reasonably-priced vintage decor
• Dallas Farmers Market — if you’re on the hunt for soaps, candles and cute trip souvenirs
• North Park Mall also has a number of great stores

For a great time
• Escape room at Grapevine Mall
• See a movie at the Landmark Inwood Theatre — it has a vintage aesthetic that’s super cool
• Party or see a drag show at Station 4 in Oaklawn

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely shout out Tolu Oye, the founder of fashion label Meji Meji and an all-round fantastic creative. We first connected a few years ago and she helped me gain experience with copywriting and social strategy. Since then, she has been a solid resource and friend, supporting me by tossing opportunities my way and sharing solid advice on how to best navigate the creative industry.
