We had the good fortune of connecting with Trish Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trish, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wasn’t sure how this would play out but I knew I wanted to be successful and I knew I loved photography. I had some great people in my corner encouraging me and I went for it. It turned out to be a great decision!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t always get to fully express myself in my photography. When I do have full creative control, I love to capture emotions. Many people battle with mental health struggles and I love to use photography to tell a story in one snap. My hope is that it makes someone feel, relate.

In 2021, I won a contest for a photo of mine I created while attending Dallas College. That was a very proud moment for me. I felt seen and understood. The recognition for my artistic side felt different, in a positive way.

I’ve come a long way from where I started. I still have a ways to go and plenty to learn. Having a business is hard work! When you want to call in tired, you can’t! When you want to hide from the world, you have to make social media posts. When you want to vacation, you have booking requests. When you want to sleep, someone is always asking about their edits lol.

It’s not all bad, though. I’ve met some really great people! Being a photographer forcing me out of my comfort zone and forces me to be sociable. I have many clients turned friends. I’ve had the opportunity to watch families grow. My favorite part is hearing people’s stories. Bartenders have nothing on photographers! We get the good, the bad, and the vulnerable.

My most important take aways so far would be:
1. Not all money is good money.
2. Misery still loves company (don’t take the bait).
3. Be kind to others and don’t forget to also be kind to yourself.
4. Be a good person and you will attract good things!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, I’m a home body except when I travel. Some musts would be Stockyards, downtown Dallas, Six flags, Hutchins, Gloria’s, Cooper’s, Twin Peaks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Johnny Garcia, with ACV Media is an important part of my success! Not only did he listen to all of my crazy ideas, he answered my questions or pointed me in the right direction and more importantly he continues to encourage me to do better and be a better photographer all the time! Having positive creatives around to bounce ideas off of, laugh at your mistakes with, and grow with is truly priceless!
