We had the good fortune of connecting with Trijanna Dejean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trijanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up around women that would cook for every occasion, and I loved standing in the kitchen and watching! I began cooking in Anchorage Alaska and opened Louisiana MD. A Cajun cafe. The world changed drastically with Covid hitting 6 months into the start of my new venture and I was forced to close my doors. I begin channeling my love for food into a passion I could make and sell from home that would be safe & not consumables due to the state of the world at that time. I started making dessert and food candles and started Tri Tri’s Candle Treats. I moved back home to Texas in 2021 and I became a vendor for the State Fair of Texas in 2022, I will be a returning vendor this year as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a entrepreneur sounds fun, and inviting, but it is not for the weak! It takes a lot of self motivation, determination and continued learning to improve and keep up with the world around us. I hand make every single candle, and I put my heart into each dessert piece, as well as my food. I believe in doing everything with passion and with love!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places to visit here in Texas would be, The State Fair of Texas of course. This is where you can get a full, Texas sized experience. I like to visit Deep Ellum often as well for a little fun on the town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Texas really played a huge role in expanding my businesses! I had a chance to be a vendor at many local pop up shops, attend creative mixers with groups like Co-Sign Magazine. Dallas Black Bloggers helped me a lot with finding different events and contacts to associate with. I am so grateful and thankful for the vendor community I have become apart of! Markets like The Dallas Millennial Market, and Manifest Your Purpose helped me with a lot of exposure as well. They all played a huge role to me believing in myself enough to venture with the State Fair of Texas. And of course my family, My grandmother Sandra Ann, sister Breonne, Uncle Lan Lan, and my cousins all helped me work events and promote my business!
