We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis & Candice Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Travis & Candice, how do you think about risk?
In business as in life, sometimes you touch the hot stove to realize what hot means. We have learned throughout the business that you have to protect yourself. When I started out, I had pipe dreams of blindly trusting people that work for me because when I was looking to become an inspector, no one would quickly hire me. I told myself I was gonna start a company that took people who wanted to inspect and make them an inspector and provide them with a job. At this point in time, I now realize, why companies have non compete contracts. It’s taken me over ten years of slowly building the business and creating relationships with wonderful people to realize what is was those other companies were trying to protect. My biggest advice to anyone starting their own business is to have another source of income, a lawyer you can trust and take it very slow for at least the first 3 years.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Premier Inspections is a professional, real estate inspection firm. We are a family based business who apply our Christian values into our business. Growing up, surrounded by real estate agents, I was familiar with how it all worked and got my professional inspector license. I was blessed to work with Chris Goggins, who taught me so much. After a few years, I decided to go on my own and open Premier Inspections. It wasn’t an easy road, but I had a huge support system. My wife, Candice started working full time for Premier Inspections in 2016. Thanks to her marketing and social skills, we have built so many relationships and have been able to hire more inspectors. She is truly the heartbeat of the organization. Trey White (Candice’s uncle) joined the team a few years ago. He has experience in home construction and is retired from the Fort Worth Fire Department, so he is a perfect fit for Premier Inspections.

Our number one job is to simplify this part of the home buying process for our clients and partner agents. We provide professional and detailed inspections and present with same day reports.

We faced many challenges throughout the years. In the beginning, I had to keep another other job while building relationships to make Premier Inspections successful. It was alot of work but so worth it. We have also had to deal with people taking advantage of our trusting nature. Throughout it all, our hard work and dedication only made us stronger.

We are so proud to provide discounts to veterans, fire, police, nurses and teachers. We are true believers in giving back to our community. We have contributed to Bless Your Neighbors 76052 to help our neighbors in need, thanks to a local realtor, Camille Marin. We helped create Give Small Help Big 76262, which helps local, small businesses and families in need. We love to volunteer feeding the homeless and help with birthday parties that the Garden of Yahweh hosts. We always try to give back any way we can!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh that’s an easy question. We would take them to check out Oak Street Food and Brew in Roanoke. The owners, John and Irene Dancer are such a great people and have created an amazing establishment for people to be able to eat, have drinks, enjoy live music and so much more. There are a variety of vendors in there to choose from. Our personal favorite is The Hot Potato. David and his team make the best brisket and mac n cheese baked potatoes. You can also stay next door at the Oak Street B & V (also owned by John & Irene Dancer) and take a walk up Oak Street to check out a variety of restaurants and venues. There is so much to do in Roanoke and we enjoy taking our family there or just visit for a date night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Chris and Katie Goggins of Realty Inspection Services gave me my first shot and trained me how to inspect properly. We wouldn’t be where we are at today without their help in the beginning.
