We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori DuBose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’m still working on my work-life balance. I have a fiancé and an 11-month-old and trying to navigate my new family while starting a business and still working is a new challenge for me. It’s hard because I feel guilty for being away from my baby because I’m trying to make a living, but I know once my business takes off, it’ll all be worth it. I just hope my son is proud of me for all the hard work and sacrifices I made to give him a fulfilling life. Overall, work-life balance is important to me, and I want to be able to have a strong home life. I want more kids, so I want the flexibility to be with them for all the games, recitals, plays, and everything else they are in. I have always been the type to never want her life to be dedicated to work and work only and I’m even more determined now that I have my son.
What should our readers know about your business?
My Interior Design business was created with the goal to focus on communication and establishing a process where clients are confident in the ebb and flow of the project. I hear people complain all the time about how picking materials is hard and time consuming, so as a designer, I want to make the decision-making process as easy and less stressful as possible. I am creating an atmosphere of open communication, organized decisions, and smooth (within reason) transitions so my clients can put their trust in me to handle everything for them. I have gone through a few trials and errors and understanding what processes I want to change and update to make it better for me to give my clients great service. It definitely wasn’t easy; it still isn’t easy. I still make mistakes, but I learned that most clients are fairly forgiving if you tell them up front and you handle everything with urgency and efficiency.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve been seeing some new restaurants (new to me) coming on my Instagram feed lately. If my best friend was visiting for a week, I would definitely want to check out those spots. A few of those spots are Plomo Quesadillas, Wagamama, and The Dream Taco. I’m a big foodie so I love to try new places. Some of the experiences that I’ve seen that I would love to check out is Meow Wolf, Water Gardens, Blacklit, and Cidercade. I love experiences and I’ve been seeing Meow Wolf for a while now and I’m stoked to check that place out. Another place for the adrenaline junky in me is a place called Slick City. It’s like a huge building with slides that goes in all kinds of ways, so like water slides with no water. Honestly, almost anything that has to do with good food or an adrenaline rush I’m there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God, my mom, my fiancé, and my son. God because He is my stronghold and my faith in Him is what helps me continue to push forward with my business and continue to pursue the life I truly want. My mom because my mom is so supportive and so loving; she has been such an unwavering person in my life and I’m so grateful for her. God really knew what He was doing by blessing me with her as my mother. My fiancé because he gives me the encouragement to take risks and he pushes me even when I don’t want to be pushed. My son because I want to make him so proud to call me his mom. I want him to look up to me and thank God that he was blessed to have me like I do with my mom. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am and have the drive I have to make something of myself.
