We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Muscat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Before becoming an agent, I worked a conventional job in retail and I made the same consistent paycheck over and over with no true “good months”, just consistency. I was struggling to pay for the life that I wanted and working long 11 hour days 6 days a week. One day at work, I saw my boss came to the store, driving a brand new Maserati, and I figured that it was time to make a switch. I wanted a career where I had growth potential to give myself the life that I dreamed of, and I knew that I would not achieve this unless I started my own business. I knew that it would take lots of hard work and dedication, but at that instant – I knew that it was something that I had to do.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is my passion and my drive, as well as my persistence. Getting your foot in the door of the Real Estate business is not easy. The biggest issue your first year is the simple fact that you are learning a new field that you are essentially incompetent in. Why would anyone trust a brand new agent in working one of their lives biggest transactions? My first year in Realty was extremely tough. I quit my previous job in order to fully commit to this, and decided that I was going to make it work… no matter what. Through my first year, I worked 70+ hour weeks learning the business, prospecting for new clients & growing my expertise so that I could better help my clients who had put their trust in me. All of this work and I had made just around $4,000 my first year, however I knew that it would get better.
A big shift for me was incorporating a video serious where I talk about anything Real Estate related – and once I did this, my business took off. I went from making $4,000 my first year to over 6 figures every year thereafter.
Have faith in the process. Your hard work will be rewarded, you just have to start with the foundation.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
DFW is filled with so many hidden gems, lots of great shopping opportunities, as well as so many delicious eateries. Whenever I have friends or family come into town, I will always showcase the Shops at Legacy area.
The shops are a great place to go shopping, with many designer and boutique stores, as well as great restaurants.
I would start the day at Granite Park, and go to one of my favorite breakfast spots “Biscuit bar” where you can enjoy many different styles of artisan biscuits. You are able to eat outside on the boardwalk where you can enjoy the Texas sun, as well as stare off into the water features. Following this, I absolutely love a Hike through “Arbor Hills”, a nature preserve which has miles upon miles of paved, and unpaved walking trails through the woods.
After your hike, once you are all washed up and clean – a great place to go shopping is the Northpark Center in Dallas which has anything you could dream of, and you can go as boujee as you could want.
After shopping for dinner, I would love to end the day at either North Italia or Bobs Chophouse at the Shops at Legacy. Both are amazing eateries and a perfect way to end your day. (North Italia – you NEED to try the Strozzapretti, Bobs the Cherry Glazed duck)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my success to my family and friends… my “raving fans”. Building a new career is extremely difficult especially with having so many other licensed Realtors in Dallas as competition. The first year is always tough for any new business. My family has helped me so much – I have actually sold 4 deals for my mother. Also – having amazing friends and clients that will always refer my name to their friends and family has helped me win so much business that I would have not found on my own. In sales, clients and contacts is the name of the game. You NEED great friends and family to support you, to grow your business to heights that you could never achieve on your own.
