Meet Toni Adams | Mental Health Professional & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Toni Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Toni, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I would say being open and honest with myself. I am always transparent with myself and those that are around me to continue to grow. I always want to ensure that I am constantly doing the work I need to do to become a better wife, mother and creator and agent for change.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the military for 12 years( Army). I am currently in school at the dissertation level completing my Doctorate in Counseling & Supervision. I currently work with an agency that provides mental health services to Military Veterans & Family members. I would say the number one thing that sets me apart is having the ability to work a full-time, job, mother, wife, Doctorate student, photographer and so on and still have the ability operate in my passion to help others. Professionally it was not easy arriving where I am now. I was active guard reserve for 6 1/2 years and I decided to focus on the career in which I truly loved the most and that was mental health. It was not easy to walk away, but i would not regret the decision I made to pursue my career. I relocated from Louisiana to Dallas, Tx to pursue my career as well as my passion for photography. I have overcome many obstacles and I am glad I am still here to operate in my pursuit of purpose. One of the lessons I have learned along the way is that you will get through any struggle in time, just keep moving. I would like the world to know that I take my creativity with photography and mental health seriously, and I have chosen to use my dash here on earth to make a difference and bring joy to others’ lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am fairly new to the city. If it was up to me, I would start with some brunch spots in downtown Dallas, then possibly deep ellum for some night life, then I would hop over to legacy west on a Friday or Saturday for live music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I did not grow up with much and I was introduced to track and field at a very young age. I later met someone dear to me who presented the idea of Track and Field to me. I would like to shoutout Coach Edward Holmes. He was my first track and field coach and having him come into my life has played a significant role in the woman I am today.
