We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tom, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
What most people don’t realize is how important their brand is to their company. So often, new clients come to us asking for an “update to their brand”, which usually means just updating the logo. Brands are so much more than the logo – a brand is actually every touchpoint the company has with the market, including the entire customer journey. The reason so much marketing doesn’t work is that a company doesn’t tell their story well. They don’t articulate their value proposition so that it resonates with the marketplace. Or they don’t work to make sure every step of the customer journey is a great experience. You can have the best product or service in the world, but if you fail at even one step of the customer journey, you can lose a great client forever.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love what I do. I have been fortunate throughout my career to work for, and with, some great people. My journey certainly hasn’t been a straight line, but I’ve learned something at every stop along the way. I loved to sell and early on I worked for some of the top companies in the fine paper industry. When I made the jump to marketing, I found my real passion. Each engagement is unique, so every day is different. The last 5 years, working with ExperiPro has been incredibly rewarding. Every day, we help organizations grow by improving their brand. What could be better than that?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love showing off Dallas. A perfect day would be to start with a coffee at Ascension Coffee, a driving tour of downtown and a stroll through Klyde Warren Park, and a visit to the Nasher Sculpture Carden. Lunch would be in Deep Ellum at St Pete’s Dancing Marlin. The afternoon would be either a trip to The Star in Frisco for a tour of the Cowboy’s facility, or a visit to the Dallas World Aquarium. To wrap up the day, drinks at sunset on the patio at the Belmont Hotel (the best view of downtown!) and then dinner at Javier’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
